well thanks to the forum at least I figured out how to pull the tonneau cover release cable and raise the top manually but here is the problem..well ..2 problems. Top worked great, went for a drive, and when I returned the dash switch did not work to put the top up. Arrgh!
I guess it finally happened to me.
Problem 1:
I also found the passenger side top pins (see photo) on the seat. This is the one that fits into the hole in the windshield receiver port or whatever it is called. Anyway it will not stay in the top. I noticed there is an groove on the top side of the pin that maybe had an 0-ring or something to keep it from falling out of the top
Problem 2:
the tonneau still does not respond when depressing the button on dash. I checked the fuses for the release and they looked fine. I guess the switch could be bad?...
Anyone that has any ideas or help would greatly be appreciated.
here is the photo of the pin that fell out of the top-
Did you check the fuse in the footwell box labeled "TPA"?
Tonneau Pulldown Actuator.
Sorry, I can't help you with the pin issue but maybe with the top not quite all the way up, and the handle in the locked/closed position, you can re-insert the pin into the top.
Never seen this problem before, but Im probably just lucky.

thanks, yep, did that and the best I could tell it was ok. I can put the pin back into the top but it will not stay.Geez!
well, this doesn't look like a real popular thread, so I guess I am on my own but at least I will post a follow up in case others have the same issues.
The local chevy dealer did fax me a schematic of the vert top in case anyone is interested... #27 is the pin that fell out and it appears there is a retainer clip to hold it inside the top. Since my car is only 5 yrs old and this is the first issue of this problem I plan to see if I can get to the retainer clip and put it back on just in case it is still usable. The dealer did say that the pin/clip combo is $39 and you have to buy it as a combo.
Sorry you've had little response but I've personally never seen this one. I was going to suggest a clip of some sort was missing but you figured that one out. You might want to check the top storage area (under the tonneau) to see if you can find the clip that came off.
If there is no fuse problem you can see, I'd replace it anyway just to be sure. Otherwise it sounds like the switch or the connections to it. Once you get the pin back in, you could try to 'cycle' (unplug and replug) the connections. Or it could also be a bad position sensor, I suppose. Aren't you getting any error messages?
BTW, thanks for the schematic...is there any more of it you can post?

Can't help with the top pin, but did you try reindexing the windows? If you've lost power to the car, you have to reindex or the top switch won't work. I learned that the hard way, and believe it or not, got the answer from the forum here after speaking with the dealership and getting no where! Also, make sure that the trunk cover is secure, if it's not, the top won't work either. It has to be snapped into place.
A post above suggests reindexing the windows. My vert top would not operate when I first looked at the car because the dealer had just replaced the battery. Reindexing is needed after a power interruption. Procedure in the manual.
I would say indexing the windows might work. Also put the windows up first. I remember on my friends 08 the top didn't work until we put the windows up then indexed them.

Check to how the other pin is secured. As another person said it probably is a C clip. My car is on the rack or I would look.Fuses looked fine? Did you remove them and check for continuity or check to see if there was power to the switch?
thanks guys- well I just dug in there last night and made up my mind that I was going to fix it.
On the diagram #31 is a trim piece and the front part of the top that can be taken off with 5 torx screws. Once the trim piece is off you can pull the canvas back far enough to get to the clip side of the pins. After squeezing a C clip down to fit I ended up finding the missing clip in the plastic trim piece on the side of the top. The clip looked a lot like the ones for the screws holding the tail lights in place. The C clip would have worked fine.
I checked all the fuses again (for the second time) and after trying it again it worked. I did replace the 20A fuse in the footwell with a spare from the engine compartment cause a drop one and couldn't find it. The dropped fuse looked fine but since it was the actuator fuse the tonneau would not lock without it.
Anyway, when I fired up the car everything worked perfectly. Tried it 2-3 times, up and down with the top and back to normal. Not sure if the fuse was bad even though it looked good or if it just not seated properly but now everything works.
It was sure a good feeling to fix it and understand how to get to the pins on the top in case that happens again.
no pics but can get some pretty easy if someone wants them. No big deal.
Let me know if you're interested
I'm always interested in any info on the vert tops and this is one I've never heard before. I'd like to see the uncovered location of the pin and clip.
ok, here are some photos of what it looks like if anyone else ever has a pin to come loose. Not sure how it came loose but after looking at the clip it is possible.
remove the black trim piece just below the cashmere top edge by removing (5) T25 screws
close up of the metal trim piece
trim piece removed- the canvas is not adhered to the top-just pull it over the top edge
this is the other side of top edge with the canvas pulled back so you can see the short end of the pin with the retainer clip attached
pin and retainer clip.
This is a very easy DIY job. It took me 10 min to get the pieces out and take photos. The retainer clip should be easy to find if it drops down as there are a number of places it will stay around the trim.
I hope this helps someone 'cause it looks like it doesn't happen very often but may prevent someone from taking their car to the dealer and spending $39 for a new pin and retainer clip- not even taking in account of what the dealer labor would cost.
