Default Tire problem..glass half empty or full...

Well I have confirmed this morning I definitely have a slow leak in my left Rear tire There is no nail or object in the tire at all, I have inspected it so its gotta be just a tiny hole ..but I am not really keen on the idea of patching a tire in a high performance car like this. PSI was 32 when I parked the car last week, this week got in to drive when I got back from business trip.. tire was 12 PSI It had fluctuated before from like 30 down to 26, but then once I put air and start driving, it would build PSI and maintain it..seemed to only leak when it sits for a while, which does obviously make sense. But now down to 12 PSI after 6 days of sitting..tire has got to go.

Problem is I am running the General Exclaims UHP Tires (Z06) which are not made anymore so it looks like I will have to buy an entire set of tires.. these tires only have about 4-5k miles on them also. Guess I will try and sell the other 3 to someone else running the same sizes so if they meet wtih the same fate I did, they won't have to buy an entire new set of tires.

GLASS HALF FULL = Excuse to buy new rims as well maybe

Guess I will throw on some Nittos.

you never mentioned if you checked around the stem at the rim, nor if you checked for slow leak in the stem (using the ole spit method)

if you have a tire shop install an interior patch I don't see a problem , I install them all the time and never have an issue

I agree, a patch will be fine...I put a plug in 2 of my old G/Y's, I knew I'd be replacing them so I didn't bother with patches, the plugs held up fine during the last 2-3K miles of the tires...no track or really aggressive driving but for normal (and SOME) spirited driving they were fine, a patch will be even better.

In today's world, it is necessary for you to lower the pressure in the other tires to equal the low tire's pressure, not fix the problem with the low pressure tire.

One of my good friends is a mechanic and tire installer so I trust him and will have him look at it and see what he thinks. Re the patch, these are not GY run-flat tires , they are a non-run flat General Exclaim UHP

Tank,
I got a slow leak too! Not sure what I'm gonna do after these wear out, I really like these.
I plugged my original GY runcrap and it lasted almost 10k miles
I wouldn't be too worried about a plug or patch.

I've had ultra high performance tires plugged & patched in the past, with absolutely no problems.
If I was to use those tires on the track, I'd share your concerns. But for street use, I'm 100% comfortable with a repaired tire.

Take it to Discount Tire. They'll plug & patch the tire, and balance the wheel, for free.....even if you didn't buy your tires there.

Non-runflats can be patched the same as runflats, with the usual issues about puncture location and tire condition.

As others mentioned, you can also check for a leak in the valve (use one of those little valve-core tightening tools), and re-torque the nut around the stem (62 INCH-pounds).

Sometimes, the glass is actually 3/4 full! Good luck!

Sometimes the O ring on the TPMS is the culprit. Tire shop can check and tighten in "inch pounds" I believe. Happened to me.

Thanks guys, will pursue the shop and I am sure my buddy will try and do some repair as you guys recommended..so we'll see. I had to drive the car to work today, so I am curious to see how much air will have leaked while I am at work all day

TIM! Whats up, hope to see you around again, was good to catch up at lunch the other day

I am considering the Nitto Invos if for some reason this tire can't be fixed.

It isn't rocket science to remove the tire and spray with soapy water to find the leak. Last 2 times I had slow leaks, I had a cracked rim.

Check your valve stems! I had a similar problem on my 01 and it ended up being the valve stems leaking internally from corrosion. Also had a friend that had his leak from the nut working lose that holds the stem to wheel.

Spot on....that seems to be the prevailing mindset in Washington DC.
