I use the wand wash while I am traveling because the hotel doesn't like you washing your car in their parking lot. I use the spot-free rinse setting to wet the car and fill a bucket with water. Then I mix up some soap and use MF cloths to wash the car followed by spot-free rinse and dry. It costs $2 per wash.

I haven't use a drive through because the touch free ones don't seem to get the car clean and the brush ones will swirl your clear-coat something fierce.

I bring my bucket, sponge, soap and towels when out of town. I only use the sprayer to rinse.

At home in case of water restriction, closed garage, wash bucket, rinse bucket, one panel at a time, beer between each panel.

This stuff rocks, can be used in the sun, and leaves a great shine and smooth finish.

Have you tried ONR? I've tried Aquanil, wasn't the least bit impressed. Its feels like nothing more than a QD. I've used other waterless products like Opticlean, Poorboys and 3D, they all felt like they had much more lubricants.

A guy at a car show told me he does that with his 57 Belaire while at the show but, uses windshield washer fluid in a spray bottle instead. Looks like the same stuff???

It depends on the color, my 01/Qwick Silver /Z06. I ran it threw the auto/wash maybe 3 times a week. She always looked fine. Now with 07 ( BLACKIE ) she gets the hand wash some times every other day. Besides the sign at the town hall says, "FINE FOR CAR WASHING".

Anyone ever here of/ or used "SPLASH" we have one near me, & the car is pulled through automatically, and there are 4 men who to the actual washing, it goes past the first 2 and they have OVER-SIZED mittons on and they (one on each side of the car, wash it with "VERY SOAPY" water on the mittens, then it is automatically rinsed, and they the 2nd set of men hand wash it again so actually 4 people wash it (2 on each side) then its rinsed twice, and blown dry (semi dry) and it is then pulled to the "dry area" and 4 more men dry, vacuumed, do the inside of ALL the glass (even the big rear window... the mats are removed, and if it has leather seats etc, they use LEXOL on all leather, seats, doors etc...

If you sign up (become a member, every 10th wash is Free, your birthday is free, AND if for ANY REASON the car is not clean up to 3 days you can go and get it redone for FREE!!

To be honest I have not washed my car "myself" in over a year they charge $17 and it's WELL WORTH IT

I do go over it every now and then with a spray detailer (Zaino or an equivalent) .. they put stuff on the wheels to make then look good (you have a choice of hi shine or normal, which just makes them look very black "my choice" ...

This is how it normally looks (the blond is not always with it)...

Yes, we have a Splash near us. I bring my DD through it all the time. They are good. The Free 72 hour re-wash is a great deal. I bring my Vette to Splash on occassion. They actually hand clean it off to the side, I was afraid the Vette was too low to go through and I like the idea that one person does it the old fashioned way. I have another hand wash that is closer to my house that I'm using for the Vette when I don't do it myself. I'm actually surprised that more Vette owners don't clean their cars with a hose a bucket of water. All this spray wash, times are changing and old habits die hard with me.

Do you wax often? I would think that the harsh chemicals and the high pressure jets would deteriorate the wax protection?

I agree 100% Like I said above, I go to splash, and the guys who wash use a large glove that looks like a soft type of glove to wash...

There is another "Hand Wash" not too far, & they pull the car into a bay, & use a "High Pressure" wand to spray the car I would think this is OK ONLY IF the car has a lot of mud, or is covered with dead bugs from driving on the interstate at high speed...

But for normal lite dirt, I prefer they do it the old fashioned way, with the big washing mitt by hand.. So i NEVER go there I'm afraid the high pressure will take off the waxetc... etc.. so I stick with Splash...

I just do NOT like them using high pressure on my car...

Oh.... For you guys in Westchester near Brewster, there is a "Detail" shop "Q - Tip" they wax my car, and use Lexol on the leather, clean the engine, use some kind of black shine on the dash etc....etc.. all for $100 but I take the car to them 2 or 3 times a year...and when it comes out it's the "cats meow" it looks great... they do the wheels fantastic, and polish the quad tips on my exhaust...I love driving out of there with my car looking BETTER than when I picked it up when I bought it....

While the soft mitt might look softer, the pressure washer is the way to go. If used correctly, it effectively flushes dirt off the surface with plenty of water as a lubricant. The wash mitt drags dirt all over your car. If the person before you was in a dirty 4x4, it's even worse. That said, a pressure washer in the wrong hands is very bad.

Damaged how? I own a couple of washes, each of which has a couple of touchless bays: pull in, undercar wash while I enter; two soap/rinse cycles, one clear-coat protectant cycle, one final spot-free rinse with RO water, then exit through the dryers. Nothing touches the car, ever. Final touch-up in the lot behind the wash bays. Been doing it with my vettes, Caddies, Jeeps, for years with no harm.

What's the big deal? Oh, I get it - someone told you you're driving a cultural icon that is only deserving of the true reverence that comes from slavish, personal hands-on attention.

Meh - fek it. I have better things to do.... Like take a nap.

I don't use wax, I have always used NuFinish on all of my cars. The beading is absolutely unbelievable, I can drive in the rain and the car can still look clean when it dries. Here is a recent picture (my car is 5 1/2 years old and has been driven):
