I have an '07 and whenever I turn on the AC or Heat in my car--it makes a clicking noise. Does anyone know what this could be? I was told that it was possibly the compressor going bad but I wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem before I purchased a new compressor.
AC has clutch at its pulley to engage and disengage. Perhaps you're hearing that? Even when you're in heat mode, if you have not disabled your AC, or if you direct air to the windshield (which overrides the AC disable mode), your AC compressor will engage from time to time and you'll hear it.

Common noise, compresson NOT going bad unless something UNUSUAL! Both posts above are correct and this "clicking" noise is NOT UNUSUAL, just cycling in different modes!
Well, I was surprised to watch a Mazda Protege instead of a Corvette to be honest, but if it sounds like that, indeed it's not right. So it only happens when A/C is engaged, right? Did you physically check the A/C clutch pulley to see if something is stuck around it, or if it is loose, etc.?
To test that it is indeed coming from A/C, you can remove the A/C relay from the fuse box, run your car, and see if there's still noise. I think it was fuse #35 or 37, I forgot
