OP buy a used certified z06. 08's go for around 46k and you get 5 years powertrain warranty 1 year b2b. Penfed right now is offering 1.5% on used cars. Thats what I did. Grabbed a mint 11 carbon edition z with 1k miles on it. A stock z06 is better than a modded c6 99 times out of 100.
That's what I would do before I spent several thousand $ on swapping and painting body panels.
This is where the disconnect occurs. Nobody is arguing that you don't get your money back from your mods.
Sounds like you agree with me? That was my entire point.

I assume this statement was not directed at me since I clearly distinguished between work done by Callaway vs work done by the local mechanic.
I think the WB is a bit different and falls into a category all it's own. Vettes aren't like some others cars when it comes to changing these panels out - it's pretty simple to unbolt the old and bolt on the new panel. If the paint matches and the fit and finish is top notch, I don't think it's going to hurt your value. If it's OEM panels, even better. It's not like you are torching off sheet metal and welding in new parts. Just don't count on recouping the $ you spend on it when you sell. IMO it will probably help sell the car.
In the end it depends what you intend to do with the car when you are done. If you intend to sell it privately then as they say "there is an a$$ for every seat". Not meant to be derogatory but you may find someone to buy it if they have the same taste.
You will still take it in the shorts and won't get back anywhere near what you put into it except for the satisfaction you get while owning it.
For those who want to trade in their vehicle there would be nary a dealer who would want to touch a modded car. Is a C6 wide body conversion something a dealer wants. I don't think so. It is a wanna be at the very best no matter how great it looks. Dealers don't want to touch cars that have been engine modded unless they are Calloway or possibly Lingenfelter.
In my opinion, you mod it, you keep it. I'd never consider buying a modded car period. Thats just my opinion and dont forget, you pretty much never get your money back out of the mods. Those were done for your satisfaction and in most cases a new buyer would not pay for those mods. Oh, I'm not old either (at least in my mind at 56).
