I simply built my own wireless controller. Most of the time I leave the exhaust open, but if I'm in stuck in an rpm range where drone occurs, one push of the button on my HomeLink (which I added to my 2013 2LT sunvisor) quiets things down.
For those that want it a little bit louder all the time, the collar simply goes around the actuator rod on the vacuum pot. It keeps the butterfly from closing all the way which makes things a little louder.
It's basically an adjustable stop that goes around the "arm" that controls the exhaust valve opening and closing. You can slide the "collar" and fix it so that when in closed mode it keeps the flap from being completely closed, letting some exhaust (and noise) pass. My buddy in CA has this and it works and sounds great - i've seen it in person. It's sold by the M2W guy.
I meant creaks and rattles in the interior. Interesting about the firing order though.
My 94 LT1 sounded like a boat, too. Maybe not as much as an LS, but it was certainly not as nice as a Mustang or older 60's era SBCs.
Now, a couple of friends, one with a '92 and one with a '96 LT4, both put more aggressive cams in their engines, and the idle was delicious.
My Dad's '61 Corvette with the 283 has a little more aggressive cam and straight pipes and I could listen to that thing idle all day. At least before I passed out from the fumes
My 84 C4 sounded good but it had full exhaust. My 94 sounded quiet but was louder than my 12 or my 13. My dads 93 with a cam sounds much better. The cam does help but what most people hear is the lope in the cam. You are spot on about at idle.
LOVE the NPP. It may not be a loud as some aftermarket exhaust, but I also like that I can decide to leave it open (I have the M2W) or close it if a want a quiet cruise down the highway. I've had cars with loud exhaust and I really appreciate the quiet on long drives!
