Just took the vette out for a spin. Before the engine was started, the DIC read 11.3. Pushed the clutch, hit the button, and she cranked up as strong as usual. Voltage shot up from 11.3 to 14.5 instantly. I took a drive for about 10 miles. I shut it down for a few minutes, then went back out and shot this.

Thanks for posting that video.

That pretty much confirms what I found. By the time you power up a C6 to read the DIC voltage, there is a significant draw on the battery from all the modules, lights, etc powering up. The battery voltage displayed when the car is not running is not really a static (no-load) voltage reading of the battery.

No doubt that if you left the car alone for an hour and came back and measured the voltage across the battery terminals (like this), you would probably see close to 12.6 volts.

Well, the good news is that testing the battery under load is better than testing static.

If you learn what your normal voltage is in "run but don't start", especially after sitting overnight, then future comparisons should tell you when the battery is losing it's Wheaties.

If you want a true "static" voltage reading then disconnect the positive terminal before you connect the Volt Meter to the battery.

Think I may replace the battery for peace of mind. I am the third owner of the car (bought in October) and have no idea how old the battery is. Any recommendations on a good solid battery?

The markings on the battery should tell you when it was manufactured.

Walmart Everstart MAXX. Their Selection Number 16 (aka Group 47 or H5). Made by Johnson Controls. No hassle returns. No car dealer stories. No car dealer arithmetic. Open 24/7. Make sure that it fits you tray and venting requirements - GM used more than one style in the C6.

Good suggestion ^^^^^^

Unless it has changed, Consumer Reports rates the WalMart EVERSTART MAX as one of the best and a best buy.

Remember, the EverStart MAXX, because WalMart has 2 grades of batteries. The Maxx is the top model.

Standard Lead Acid or Gel? I would never put another standard lead Acid in a C5, too many electrical conections near the battery. Don't know if C6's have the same corroision problems that C5's do.
I plan on putting a Gel cell (optima type) in My C6 just in case.
