Default Navigation Issue

Having an issue with my favtory Nav unit and hoped someone else might have experienced the same problem. No matter how many times I calibrate the unit, the system ends up losing my current position and putting me somewhere else making using the unit useless.

I was told that upgrading to the newest disc "should" solve the problem. I don't mind spending the $400 on it, but only if it fixes the problem.

Anyone else have the same issue and what was the solution?

$400 for disk ????

Solution - upgrade to an aftermarket touchscreen navigation.
$500-1200

The update discs run $199 at the GM disc order site and around holidays like fathers day, christmas, etc. they usually offer them on special for $149.

I would check to see if you are getting a GPS signal. On your Nav screen, on the upper right hand corner, if you are not getting a signal from the satelites, it will say " GPS with a cross out line"
If you don't have that, remove the disc, clean it and re-insert.
Unless the Disc is bad, a newer disc will not change the GPS signal.
If you are intent on getting a new disc, troll the C6 parts for sale.
They come up all the time for sometimes less than $100.00, in fact I've seen a few given away.
I have a 2006, and have changed discs 3 or 4 times, and there is not many changes from my original version.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

I know you said you calibrated it but does that mean you have it set to the right region where you are located?

Why bother with old outdated systems? You would better be served by upgrading to modern aftermarket headunits using Garmin Nav. I installed a Kenwood DVD/Nav from Dennis at DoubleDMods.com

You know you can't go wrong with newer tech, maybe even get wifi.

I had the Kenwood system I got from Dennis in my C5 convert but loosing the heads up integration in the C6 nav system is something I will not give up to go with an aftermarket unit.

Dennis told me that the heads up integration was not ready to go in time for the just released 2013 Kenwoods but should be completed and available when the 2014 models come out next year. If that happens then I may switch from the factory nav to a Kenwood.

I'm not buying the notion that the problem will be solved by buying a more up to date data disc. Have you confirmed that you've selected the correct region? Is your head unit getting a signal? I'm guessing that the answer to at least one of those questions is "no".

New disc will only give you new POIs. It won't solve an issue where the GPS isn't working. Even the wrong region will only cause the local streets and alleys to not appear. And a new disc is $200 direct from GM. $400 would be from a middleman.

Just to clarify, when you calibrate you get a current position that's accurate? Or you get an inaccurate position and move the map to make it accurate? But it works correctly for some period of time and at some later time the position becomes off by, let's say a mile or two or 100? And the GPS signal indicator shows that it is receiving a signal? And there's no weird tinting on your rear window?

I recalibrated again last night but this time I took the DVD out, cleaned it and powered the system off for a few minutes. Normally I put myself in the proper position on the map and after 15 minutes or so, it looses where I am. Where it puts me veries. Most of the time it will place me a kilometer or so away. Other times I have no idea where it puts me, but it isn't even close! GPS indicator is showing signal. That has never been a problem. I have 20% tint on the sides and back window which I did the day after I purchased the car three years ago. The GPS issue only started about two weeks ago. No issues prior.

Thankfully, last night on my way home (an hour drive) and this morning on my way to work (about 45 minutes) the GPS tracked my location perfectly.

That's great to hear
There are some things that can affect the satellite signal, and according to the Nav manual, tint, especially on the back window can be one of them. Apparently if you've had tint for awhile and it did not affect it's performance, then it must of been something else affecting the GPS positioning.

Whatever you do, don't waste good money on a new disc...it has nothing to do with the problem.

Default New disc

Hi,I received a new disc from GM 2 weeks ago and i can't see any difference in the discs.IF there is a difference in the 2 discs, its ever so slight.I would think purchsing a new disc would be a waste of money. That isn't your problem. You wrote you cleaned your disc and its working properly, than you are bucks ahead.Good job! Zero outlay.Rod

I can't see it solving the problem either despite having our GM radio/Nav company tell me it should.
It might be nice getting updated map info since I have the original 1.0 version and they're now at version 9.0. Looks like it would cost me $200 for the updated disc, not $400 like they quoted me.

I went from V.1 to V.6 for $75. It's got everything I've needed so far. Got it on ebay. Buy one or two versions behind the current and it's always cheaper.

Just keep checking the C6 parts for sale. When people upgrade to a newer one, they sell the previous version cheap most times.
I bought a 2011 and sold my 2010 version for $75.00
Of course some people won't give anyone a deal, so they ask well over $100.00 for them. Not worth anything over $75.00 since the only changes from year to year are more POI's
