From My View
I have everything in my line of sight so when scanning the mirrors the GPS and Detector are in view.
I would never place a GPS down at the radio level. To many things can happen in that split second when you take your eyes off the road.
I am not a fan of the RD on the dash, or loose cables in the car. I like the dash to look clutter free.
At 5'10" I don't look through the top of the glass.
As for cops pointing at the plate or headlamps, that theory is only good with laser.
If a Cop is shooting LASER at you, no detector in the world is going to give you enough warning to slow down. You are already busted when they squeeze the trigger.
RADAR is radio waves, you will pick them up from every direction.
My Kenwood has built in NAV, but again, you have to take your eyes off of the road to look at the radio.
Safety first...If not for your life maybe consider others. People no longer look both ways at crosswalks.
I spend so much time sitting in a car that the Detector gives me something to do.
When it goes off it alerts me, so I look around for the popo.
It is not unusual for me to sit in a car from full tank to empty without stopping.
It is not uncommon for me to drive 1,000 miles round trip in a day.
Some of you get paid to sit in an office. That sucks!
I get paid to drive. Current mileage rate is 56.5 per mile.
I have a five hour one way rule, Why take a plane when you can drive it?
I get to see the world (South East) through a windshield.
You don't need HUD, the speed is on the GPS.
If you program your car to the GPS you can use it to help you save fuel, as well.
I rarely travel to the same place twice in a year.
So yes, I do use my GPS often.
I know some of you only need your GPS to get you from your garage to the Classic car meet or Applebe's then back home.

I don't envy you. I like owning cars to drive them.
In couple of years when I hit 200K miles, I will sell this Vette and buy another car and join that forum which too will have a few of the same condescending type of folks.

There are coulpe guys on this forum who know me personally(he11 one is on this thread), they will tell you the only time I am in a car is for work.
When I am not working I am on a motorcycle.
Last year I logged 24,000 miles between five bikes, that is 6,000 miles less than 2011.
Again, you have a good set up and I hope you continue to enjoy it...just watch for the thieves who can see how nice of a speed-measuring GPS that you have there.

That is a labor of love to install it in a Base C6.
Thoug hthe cost is affordable, I don't think the time to install is worth the benefit.
I am pretty sure it will not help the resale when I part with the car.
So I opted not to get it.
I pull all of my toys off the windshield when I park the car.
I have only been broken into once at the ATL Airport...
I had a 2010 LaCrosse CXS and the passenger side did not lock when I walked away.
Someone cleaned out my glove box. They got one of my HK USP, my wife's glasses and the owners manual.
They didn't get my RD or GPS from the drivers side.
Sure would like to have that gun back...
Somebody probably swapped it for a 100.00 Wal-Mart card at a gun buy back program.

I drive my DD Prius and I do have a radar. They love to catch you in the morning.

There is a 55MPH section just south of Jasper, GA.
I can not tell you how many people I have seen get popped by LASER coming down the hill in that section. Usually they are flying, though.
The road is posted 65mph everywhere but there.
From what I understand GA troopers don't have a quota like the troopers in NC.
If an NC Trooper gets out of his car, plan on a ticket.
I have been popped by an NC Trooper up in the mountains 30 miles from civilization in every direction on the bike and had them knock the speed down, then tell me who to see in the Clerks office to get the ticket knocked down even more, as long as the fine sticks.
It is no longer about safety as much a revenue.

I believe it was Virginia a few years ago, where the Troopers were giving tickets to people that had a GPS on their windshield as it "Obstructed the forward view".
Nice install, do radar detectors still go off when they pick up a wireless burglar alarm, ala McDonalds?
