if you do decide to start it up once in awhile, it would be best to let it warm fully up , to dry out the exhaust and such. i know its tempting to start it, let it run for like 3 minutes. it would take too long to fully charge.

If you start it, then you should drive it 20 or 30 miles at least.
Another testament for the Battery Tender, my '06 Harley bought new in Mar. '06 has had a BT attached since day one, always plugged in when not out riding. Still has the original battery, almost 7 years old and never a problem, still starts strong. I know I'm tempting fate and if I keep the bike I'll buy a new battery this year but BT (IMO) is the only way to go. My C6 has a BT attached as well.
Using advice I received from this forum, I use the Ctek charger to charge and maintain the car. I also use the attached to hook up to the car.
When I pull in, I just plop the magnetic connection on to the front of the car and forget it. It can sit for days weeks or months and when I come out, the battery is full and topped off. I love this thing!
I use the battery Tender Plus. Once my car is in for the storage season, it never gets started until Spring. Pump up the tire pressure and tie it to the Battery tender. Nothing else has to be done.
