I do not put more than maybe 2000 miles a year on my Vette, should I still change my oil(M1) every year?
Also,I have a plastic vent piece on the inside on my front fender scoop, its attached with 2 sided tape(could not believe how cheap this was done),the bottom has pulled lose, any ideas on how to re-attach this thing, its hard to get into the area to secure it again.
I believe the manual calls for when the DIC comes up or when a year passes. I'm just guessing this cause I have not looked at my manual but all other cars with synthetic oil always have the one year deal.
I do not have any facts that say "yes" or "no", but my opinion is "yes" change it.
It's in the owners manual. My guess is if you would have a catastrophic engine failure within the 5 year/100,000 mile power train warranty, they could deny your coverage for not following the suggested maintenance intervals.

But some people want more documation, as for my self I am on the other side of the fence. I change all fluids and filters every 30K miles, which for me is not that long. Good point on the warranty.

Of course, when you only drive 2,000 miles per year, the odds of having a catastrophic engine failure are close to zero even if you never changed the oil in the first five years.

I probably won't log much more than 2k/year in my 10-day-old '13 C6, maybe 3-4k in the first year given the new-car fever will hold for the foreseeable future and I'll be driving more than usual.
I will change once per year as per the manual, but I'm torn between using a high-performance non-API, non-Dexos1 oil (Royal Purple HPS) and a Dexos1-rated oil like RP or M1 Extended Performance. The RP has more anti-friction additives and is undoubtedly a better choice for a high-performance application, but may be a big issue if I suffer major engine repair in the warranty period--doubtful as that may be. I'm leaning toward convention and using M1 or some other Dexos1 product, as this engine will be in a low-stress environment and probably won't benefit much from a high-performance oil.

Please let us know when you a selling.
Their are many of us happy to buy your low mileage cars.
I will be ready in two years.
I am about to drop the oil out of my car this month after another 3K miles on Wednesday.
It will be outside the garage for you guys who want to finish off the last 4500 miles.

I would just get some 3M dual sided tape and reattach it with that it's amazing how long that tape will hold. If you don't want to do that then post some pictures and some will come up with a better idea I am sure.
Change the oil once a year IMO.
Cars sit for decades without the oil being changed, no issues. Chances are your car will be destroyed by another driver before your motor wears out, especially at that mileage.
Seriously though, you could easily go two years between oil changes and it would be fine. My mom only used to drive about 3-4k per year and I did her oil changes for her on her 2001 VW Golf and went with two year intervals. I sent the used oil off for analysis and it showed that it still had life left in it even after two years and could have probably gone three or four years!
Another alternative is to change it once a year but drain the oil into a clean container and put it in another car and put another few thousand miles on it. A good synthetic oil is nowhere near the end of it's life after only 2000 miles and it's almost a sin to throw it away.
