Many owners on this forum would argue that the 6 speed auto is far from being an upgrade.

Most guys planning for higher horsepower will hunt for the '05 model because it was the only C6 to have a decent auto trans. Many shops will not even touch the A6 trans, let alone guarantee a rebuild on one.

May not be a bad deal. To put things in perspective, last September, my C5 was totaled (not my fault). While we were waiting on the other driver's insurance to settle, my insurance company (State Farm) gave me money for my car, minus my $500 deductible.

It was a 2003 A4 with 114,000 miles and they gave me $20K, which was full KBB retail. The car was 9 years old at the time; yours is just 7 and has fewer miles. Might be a good price if it's in good shape.

I get 30 MPG with a 2007 A6...
The transmission can pay for the car.
I bought mine in January with 64K miles and I am at 84K now.
I have replaced both rear wheel bearings and axle shafts, harmonic balancer, pads and rotors on all four corners and all fluid when I bought the car.

The car was not babied as I found after driving it for a while.
But it is a solid dependable car now and will get me to 200K miles.

I personally would not buy a 2005 or an A4 as my daily driver.
2007's can be had for the same price if you look and haggle.

There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with the 05's. Any vette regardless of year can develop issues or problems, or could be beat to hell for that matter. I'd try to track down the history, service records, drive it of course, and just for peace of mind have your mechanic check it out. 81k is not a lot of miles for an (05) 08yrs old=10k a year. as for $23K? I offer $21900 & see what happens? I'm guessing it's not fully loaded? Nav & such?

I have an 05 (A4) and had a chance to get an 07 (A6) for a VERY GOOD DEAL !... & I turned it down for THAT reason.. I DON'T want an (A6) I race my car a lot, & the (A4) has been PERFECT.... I also have driven A6 cars, and don't like the way they drive.. seems like they are "hunting" for the right gear at low speeds...

A4's proved to be much more reliable than the '05 MN6's.

tHAT'S half the battle right there. Seems to be the manual trans cars had all the problems especially with batteries. I am still on my original battery at 49,000+ miles on 2005.

Bought my 05 A4 Z51 in Sept. 2012. Loaded (no nav.) 14.6 miles for 30K. It's a convertible and I really love the car. The car was in excellent condition, well cared for and maintained and obviously not driven much. That 80k might scare me a little but as others have said if maintained properly, that 05 will give you many of miles and smiles. Good luck !

too many miles for me. i know there are better deals out there if your in no rush. which by the way, you shouldn't be when buying a used vette.
