I get 2 miles per gallon more.
- I installed 2008 wheels. Both cars look and drive the same.
I think there is more difference from one individual car to another than there is between model years. Don't get too sucked into the GM marketing hype. Remember that there are people on here who traded in their C6s for the next year in order to get a $12 bluetooth module built in. Test drive the individual cars and decide which you like best without worrying too much about the model year. I'll bet that you will find more difference from car to car than from year to year.
We had a 2006 and switched into a identically optioned 2009, the '09 is a much nicer car in every respect.
But, having said that, we had tons of fun in our 2006, and I notice that our club members with the 2005-2007 cars seem to have just as much fun we do.
Regarding the throttle blip on the automatic-
With our 2006, using the paddles to select a lower gear simply forced the tranny into that gear. It always lurched a little, sometimes a lot; depending on the rev difference.
With our 2009, using the paddles for a downshift will automatically blip the throttle as the tranny is changing from the higher gear to the lower. That eliminates the lurch, just like double-clutching eliminates it with a stick shift. A major improvement.
You still get the slowdown from engine braking if there was a big difference in revs, but much smoother. Doesn't upset the handling nearly as much, and much easier on the transmission itself.
I was under the impression that the downshift-blip feature began in 2008, along with the LS3 engine, but can't verify that. Can someone with a 2008 A6 straighten me out?
blip the throttle: I believe what this is referring to is on the manual tranny. The '08 does not have this. I believe it was added in '09 or '10 when the launch control was added.
Its the auto he is talking about...not the manual. I have a '10 manual, and rev matches with blips are nowhere to be found. Pretty sure there isnt a single C6 manual out there with rev matching on a manual. C7 may tho.

I have that blip mechanism on my 05...it's called my right foot!
All teasing aside, do you really think the C7 added a computer program to help match rpm's on a manual? Man they know how to ruin a party. I use to be proud of the way I could match the rpm up for a smoother down shift on my cars and my bikes. Now you won't even have to develop a touch or feel for your car at all...just get in and tell the computer to drive you somewhere....

The rev matching for the manual that's introduced on this year's C7 can be turned off. It's been around for a few years now on other sports cars (Nissan Z). It's proving to be popular.

It's one of the few new features that I would really like to have and it's great that it can be turned off. The C7 is going to get to be more and more unique as other sports cars stop offering a true manual transmission.
Having driven the 07, and C7 and owning an 08 I'd say the difference between the 07 and 08 is about the same as the difference between the 08 and C7, looks aside.
Of course, to go from an 07 to an 08 costs about $3k, all options and mileage being equal. Going from an 08 to a C7, about $40,000.
thats just one more reason I won't be trading my 08 for a C7. My 08 runs great, is completely paid for, fun to drive...and there's a lot of other things I could use the $40,000 for than trading cars. No way is trading for a C7 worth 40 grand, at least for me. I am happy with what I got.
