I would venture to say 99% of the people they say fram sucks has never had any first had issues with using their filters. I have been using fram oil filters since the early 90's and you know how many issues I ran into? None. I am not going to say fram is the best but a company does stay in business this long by making a product that doesn't work.

On a side note on my 2005 I always used a fram oil filter except one time. The store did not have my part so I picked up a different brand. A purolater which the "internet" claimed to be better than fram. It leaked.

Go Get-um Red. I've used Fram filters for years in my other cars. No problems.

heh ......... Until all the naysayers can verify their expertise by posting their MME diploma along with their SAE certs they are simply blowing smoke. I know damn good and well that if Fram had a way to make them prove up in court, they'd loose big time.

Fram filters work as intended. But it is a proven fact that side by side comparisons of materials and workmanship that they are inferior to almost every other filter manufacturer on the market. These tests and results are available just search for it. I also used Fram filters almost exclusively for many years with no ill effects, I use nothing but WIX now.

100's of 1000's of miles on multiple vehicles using Fram filters and I have seen a couple of the engines opened up for modifications and everytime they looked fantastic.

No oil issues, no oil related failures...but whatever. Do proper maintenance and you shouldn't have problems.

Hell... the way so many on here throw out good oil at 3K because they know better than the engineers who designed the OLM the least of your worries should be filters as your oil doesn't even get dirty on your garage queens

My concern is the knee jerk reaction to wife's tales that get posted along with the fact that the o/p simply asked if it was Fram's newest filter. And no I haven't looked at it, some twit bought all the ones off the shelf at my local wally world.

I hear ya....funny thing is if you Google Fram Oil filter failure and WIX oil filter failure and K&N oil filter failure you will get tons of results for all of them..

I've been using Fram oil filters all my life and never had a failure. I've put over 300,000 miles on some cars and light trucks. Call them junk if you want but they work for me, even on the Vette.

The fact that Fram still uses cardboard inside their filters is reason enough for me not to use them. I been using Purolator in my vehicles my whole life,I use Mobil 1 in the Vette. The reviews and the specs. speak for themselves. Happy motoring!

No engine problems but I have one stuck on my daily driver right now. I went to take it off and the whole thing just collapsed. (and yes I did oil the gasket)

Partly because their cases are thinner than most of the other filters out there. Maybe they figure it will save weight

yeah the OEM filter was on my 07Z06 from the factory was so fking tight the tech at the dealership destroyed it removing it and that was after I couldn't loosen it at home and it started to crush....

pretty sure that wasn't a Fram

sounds to me like you had it on too tight....I have had a few filters over the years not come loose and fought like hell getting them off...all kinds....its not like they are made of titanium....they will dent if you drop them from 6 inches off the floor.....people act like all filters except Fram are made so well that you could never possibly crush one

Sometimes, if you let the motor cool down a bit, a stuck filter will release easier. Not always though....

Probably won't happen at a dealer or quick lube place though, they want you in & out of there and won't want to wait.

Don-Vette - I understand your reluctance to use the cheaper, conventional Fram filters because of the cardboard... I wouldn't either, but correct me if I am wrong, but their Ultra Synthetic filters use a metal endcap, not cardboard. IMHO, anyone with a vette should use an oil filter manufacturers premium filter, regardless of brand. If you compare the top of the line, premium filters offered by each of the various manufacturers, they are all very similar in quality, construction, filtration etc. The tests bear that out. It really comes down to brand preference.

I bought my vette used last fall. When I got it home, I changed the oil/filter. I have been changing my own oil in my personal vehicles for over 40 years. Getting the filter off the vette was the single most difficult one I had ever encountered. I spent over an hour, with various filter wrenches before I finally got it removed. I borrowed a large channel locks from a neighbor. BTW, it was a NAPA filter, not that it has anything to do with it. Whoever changed it before, tightened it WAAAAYYY too tight.

How would you know that your oil filter isn't filtering appropriately or whether the old-style Fram's waxed cardboard bypass valve failed? You wouldn't know, and when the effects of poor filtering result really cause problems you will likely be using a subsequent filter. Poor oil filter performance normally doesn't cause an immediate catastrophic failure, it is more of a long term thing.

Don't know about the Vette, but in my 66 Chevelle SS it was a bad filter and blocked my oil pressure. Also on my old 73 ford same thing, so I don't use Fram anymore for anything. Saying that I would not trust it on my Vette.

The Ultra does not use cardboard endcaps though, it has metal endcaps and is a very well built filter.
