Recently bought 2007 Coupe. Very excited to finally get the car of my dreams! I would appreciate any input/advice on how to acquire navigation update! I am 3rd owner and was advised it's never been updated since new! I appreciate your attention to my request!
I think you're entitled to two updates when car is still under factory warranty. You'll probably have to buy an updated disc.
So you are able to get an update under warranty? Never heard of that so checking. I have a 2012 that has V.8 I think newest is V.10. I would like to get the newest version. I just got car 3 months ago and it was new just last one left on the lot thing. Any info on that would be appreciated. I figured I would just buy the disk off ebay or something.

Folks, I had a 2007 and was given two free upgrades. I believe that was the only year GM did it.
If I remember correctly, I had to take the two as soon as the new version became available. I couldn't take one and than wait three years and get that available version.
I think I had versions 3.0 4.0 and 5.0. I just checked to see if I still had them but I must have threw them in the car when I traded it in. If I still had them I would have sent you one.
My 2012 came with version 8.0 GM p/n 22820294. Not sure if there is a later one.

According to the link provided by LVTOUR there is an update to the version you have......

There WERE two free updates for the 2007 but that offer expired in 2009. At this point you have to buy an update. Lots of them on EBay although it is illegal for an individual to sell or even give away discs unless it is in association with the sale of the car for which the disc was originally purchased. Are the police going to show up if you give away a disk? No, but it is illegal.

Can you explain the laws that apply to that?
I don't recall seeing anything from GM to prohibit selling or giving away my older discs.
I can see that copying a disc would be illegal; but selling a disc that you purchased properly, shouldn't be different than selling any other part off your car.

It is not illegal to buy or give away a legitimate copy of the disk to anyone. Come on! Think about what you are implying.
Now it is illegal to buy or sale for that matter a copied disk, that is copy-write infringement. The only way what you said would be true is if the product was never owned and then it
would be illegal to sale or give away because it was not yours to do so.

The difference is you don't accept a contract defining your rights when you buy a car part. You accepted a contract when you first used your nav disc. You know all those agreements everyone wants you to sign and/or click on for almost everything you do? You'd be surprised what some of them say. But similar to what some politicians say, we have to pay the bill to find out what's in it.
You agreed to a contract that you don't own the navigation discs. They remain the property of Tele Atlas North America and infoUSA. You are granted a license to use them but not to transfer them to anyone else except under certain conditions.
From the license agreement you accepted when you first used the disc:
Transfer
You may not transfer the database to third parties, except together with the system for which it was created, provided that you do not retain any copy of the database, and provided that the transferee agrees to all terms and conditions of this agreement.
As I said, I doubt anyone would haul you into court but you accepted a contract that says specifically that you can't transfer the information without also transferring the system (nav unit) it was created for. People who want to sell or give away discs without also selling or giving away their nav system are breaking the contract they agreed to which is not legal. This is why a lot of people hate lawyers.
