Interesting, our 2009 has a glove box light but can't recall about the 2006.
No light in the 2009 console, I tried a small battery powered one stuck inside the lid but stuff in the console kept turning it on and killing the batteries.

My Corvette has one but neither my wifes 13 $56K Acadia Denali or my 13 $67K Denali HD have a light in the glove box. I've never been able to figure out GM logic.
The '05's had a couple of features that later models didn't.
A locking console lid.
A pull down handle for the hatch.
A column lock
An under hood light.
A wart on the halo.
An A4 transmission.
A must Park in Reverse manual trans.
If you leave the hood up, the light will shut off about 20 minutes after the car has been turned off, just like any other light you might leave on in the car.

It isn't really of much use though.
It's a major pain at car shows. On every time you open anything on the car.

Every time you open or close anything, the 20 minute time period starts all over again. This wouldn't be a good solution for car shows, but when working on the car at home; I open all the doors, hatch, and glove box, when I start, and try to leave them open until finished. That way, the battery only takes one 20 minute hit.
Of course, you can plug in a charger, but I tend to trip over the cord sooner or later.
I have airbrushed over 250 C6 hood liners. Most guys with the '05-'06's have me use a newer liner without the light hole cut out. It is actually tough to get an '05-'06 liner that is not damaged from sitting around a warehouse or getting kicked around here and there......and just to further educate, as far as I know, GM deleted the light option starting in '07....the '07-'08 liners are the same (no hole for light), then GM changed the liner slightly starting in '09. They actually added a small indentation at the upper left corner that made extra room for a taller brake reservoir.....bottom line is that 9 out of 10 people DO NOT like the light, but if you decide to install one then you may want to inspect the appropriate liner should you decided to order from the GM parts counter.
