My 2013 GS rolled over to 1300 miles today . Had not driven it in a couple of weeks . About a mile down the road a check gas cap code popped up. . I stopped the car and retightened the cap and reset . About 4 miles later it went off again . I took the cap off again and reset, drove another 5 miles and so far so good . Just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why it would come on ?
OEM caps are crap. I had a little more success by doing this: Don't push on the cap when you tighten it. Once you get it threaded, pull slightly on it when you tighten it. It can take overnight or a few start cycles to get rid of the message or the the check engine light even after you actually get the cap tight.
OR, buy a Stant gas cap. ~$19 at the local auto parts store, and problem solved.
Take off the cap. Place it loosely on the pipe and DO NOT PRESS to help tighten it just turn lightly with your finger tips until it clicks 3 or 4 times. Pushing in to help it "seat" is a no-no.
