Default Really noisey diff.

My 2012 GS vert is in the shop right now. When I start it in the morning after sitting in the garage all night I back it out out of the garage and have to turn it pretty sharp to get turned around to drive up my driveway and the diff bangs really loud and the car bucks with each bang. I know that locked or semi-locked diffs tend to do this but mine is really bad. I think that the dealer's shop is going to tell me they couldn't find anything wrong. They're keeping it overnight to be sure it's cold when they drive it but . . .

This could also be loose axle nuts. Mine did that on my 2010 GS. I removed the axles, cleaned lubricated the splines and re-torqued the nuts. Nice and quiet now. If it makes a bang or clunk more than once or twice it could be the diff.

It sounds to me like you've described the phenomenon of wide front tires scrubbing/skipping when the steering wheel is turned sharply. The wider and stickier the tire--i.e., GY RFT Supercar F1 G2s--the worse the jumping, and it's especially bad when the tires are dead cold in the morning. I'm not gonna say that you don't have an issue with the diff or axle nuts or end links, but I doubt your 2012 has many miles on it and I think it's better to look for the simple solution than the complex one. Hope it works out for you.

BTW, lots of threads in the forum talking about this. Totally normal for the wide body GS with the big sticky tires.

The front tire scuffing (not banging) is normal in slow sharp turns but that's not what the op is describing.

If it's cold and you're still on summer tires, it's normal. Same thing happened in my V. I was at the dealer getting it serviced and it was below freezing, made a sharp turn, everyone was freaking out because it was loud and did not sound normal in a $70K car. Service advisor rushed to the computer and saw there was a TSB stating it was normal, combination of the suspension, summer tires, and freezing pavement. I also had some diff noise on turns as well, and it was cured with the diff oil, 88862624. If that doesn't fix it, you need a whole new diff. Went through a diff on both V's.
