Default Installed aux input jack today

I installed the jack today so that I can listen to my phone in the car, or anything with a 3.5 mm male stereo plug. This was my first time to remove the radio bezel, so I took it really slow, found a few threads, looked at pictures, and watched a video on youtube. I have a 2006 convertible with nav and xm. It took a total of about four hours to complete. It works like a charm, and it only cost me $3 for the jack. I had everything else I needed, including a CAT 5 cable that I cannibalized.

I used this method:

I installed the jack next to the cigarette lighter. Only real problem I had was that the plastic was too thick and so I didn't have enough threads on the jack to tighten down the collar. I used a larger drill bit to make a bit of a countersink in the plastic, so that the collar would thread onto the neck of the jack. I think it has enough threads now to stay in place (hopefully).

If nothing is plugged into the jack, the xm works as before. If I plug something into the jack, it switches to that input automatically. Of course, I have to select xm on the radio as the source. I like it!

Many thanks to those who have posted instructions pertaining to this install, including removing the radio and bezel.

I installed my jack at the rear of the console compartment. I could install it simply by removing two nuts and lifting the rear of the console and not completely removing it. I leave my MP3 player in the console compartment and plug the power into the power connector at the front of the compartment. I did a mod to the fuses so the power jack goes off when the ignition goes off.

I spliced my cable into the left and right wires on the xm box...grounded the common to the metal xm box. I routed the cable under the carpet and drilled a small hole inside the rear of the console. My cable had a female plug and I attached a longer male to male cable. Works fabulous. I select channel 0 on the xm. Flawless. Same Mod was done to my cts-v a few years ago.

Idk if it's the same man... I have the touch screen nav unit. I followed the diy aux audio cable thread on here. The xm moule is in the trunk area right behind the driver side front roof panel holder.
