I think a mid Engine would be harder to work on than the way they are now! I say keep them the way they are, if it was a mid GM would charge even more for the car, and you have more of a chance of scratching it when changing oil etc.
The big problem is the price , we all talk about being like the Big Boys,Well the Big Boys pay price. Next Most Corvette owner donnot want anything new. So will we see a mid- engine Vette NO. So this means we are in the class as S2000 , Musatang etc.
FYI, for anyone in northern California that might like to see a "midengine corvette":

The NCRS National Convention is right around the corner, August 9-13.
The Board of Directors tells us that it is the largest National Convention
to date. That's exciting!! As one of the main sponsors of the event,
Corvette Mike, will have a prominent display area at the site. As part of
the display, thanks to Ralph Kramer, Tommy Morrison and Warren Mosler the
pole setting, ZO6 based, mid-engine MT900 Photon will electrify the crowds
at Fisherman's Wharf. This is the mid-engine Corvette that Zora would
have built, if he had his way. Judging will take place at the Monterey
Convention Center adjacent to the Doubletree Hotel. We still have a few
rooms left in our block for any last minute registrants. Reply to this
email for details.
Yep, this coulda/shoulda been the 2003 Corvette. :yesnod:
Mid Engine !!! ....It's not a question of weight ratios it's a question of design !
How many enthusiasts would like to view their beautiful LS-1 engines from a glass hatch such as the Modena 360's ?!?!? ...Now would that be cool or what?!?!
Actually, you can provide yourself with a Vette engined rear-mid car quite simply and rather inexpensively. Find a 1988 Fiero, preferably Formual version with a V-6 engine. Then either take it to V8Archie or buy a kit from him for the installation of a GM create or junk yard motor in place of the V6. The weight of the V8 is remarkably close to that of the V6 that it replaces. Transmittion, brakes and suspension can be upgraded at your choice. The engine can be modified as you wish. All for far less than $20K. Sometimes you can find one of these for sale, already converted.
The car lends itself to custom bony work as the panels come off quite easily.
If you're into GTs, OneDesign will install a NorthStar complete with automatic transmition. Again, no weight problems. Get an STS engine, it has 3.73 gears.
Or if you really want to get fancy, get a transmition from the first series Toronados, rotate 180 degrees and then flip up side down. You can now mount the engine north south instead east west. But it takes a bit more work.
The point is, if GM wanted to do a car like this with an east west engine, it's no trick and can be done within the Vette price range.
As for me, leave the engine where it is. Down alittle, maybe, but in front of the driver and behind the center line of the front wheels. :D
hmmm...mid-engine would be nice. i liked the hai. a swiss car with a mid-mounted hemi. so sweet, so fast, lots of money. same with the original GT40(only ford that i like). keep the motor up front, cause i want that big hood to look out over.
Yes eldog. Before I wish for too much,I think of that.Price is one of the things in the equation. As it is some people say to me,"ain't they about 75thousand?"
No that would be departing from history. Gm wouldn't build it and if they did build a mid engine car it would definately not be a corvette but most likely a cadillac. :chevy
