I live in the 2nd biggest speed trap in the US and I always flash. Around here, LEO have been transformed into another arm of the municipal revenue department. They used to pull you over for 1MPH over the speed limit, but the State put in a law that prohibited them from stopping unless you were 5 over. That and having red light cameras on every stop light is their main "taxation" method. Well, that and adding utility taxes since the state legislature limited the hikes on Property taxes.
You forgot to add "Welcome to Florida" at the end of your post.
I never flash. If somebody is stupid enough to exceed the limit enough to get a ticket; they deserve it. When I pass a cop who has pulled over a speeder; I honk my horn and give the cop a thumbs up.
It depends. I don't agree that all "speed traps" as they are called are simply to make money. I think there are places that people exceed the speed limits excessively and those places need to be monitored by police. Its simply a matter of being responsible to all motorists involved. Speed limits on the whole are for citizens safety ( I don't always agree with them), but on the other hand, if we didn't have limits posted, what kind of speeds would we see on the streets.
In answer to the original question, I do sometimes flash other drivers to make them aware.

I do have an Escort 9500ix (with a Blend Mount) that I keep updated. But otherwise I mind my own business. If I get caught speeding, well...I was big enough to speed so I'm big enough to pay the fine - I feel everyone else needs to look out for themselves. I will speed from time to time but I don't drive "crazy". And I also agree that cops aren't always looking for speeders so I'm not alerting someone that they might get caught ahead.
Several years ago I was on I-30 heading east out of Dallas. The speed limit at the time was, I think, 65 mph. A fellow in a CORVETTE (I think it was a C5 but it's been a good while ago) was weaving in and out of traffic and went past me at what I'm guessing was 85-90 mph. I remember thinking "Where is a cop when you need one?" The guy was driving like a nut. He went on ahead and I was riding along with my cruise set on the limit. About 10 minutes later I came upon a trouper with a car pulled over - the CORVETTE that had passed me. EXCELLENT! I tooted my horn a couple times as I went by - the trouper looked my way and waved real big.

Everyone did it 30 years ago. Seems a dying breed that does this now. I try to do it if I see someone coming up a bit fast into a trap, otherwise I think most would not have a clue.
this is what I wrote in greg 09s thread a couple days ago.
I kinda thought it was a local law, or some jurisdictions just would give you a ticket because it was giving away their "revenue locations."
I still do it from time to time in the Corvette or anything I'm driving. Trucks are usually way far ahead in touch with each other since the law not allowing them to have radar detectors, but I still give any and all a flash or three if I can, and if it won't alarm traffic going in my same direction. Nights are when it's difficult to flash when cars are in front of me even if the trap is set for the other side's traffic.*
If I get a ticket well....I guess I'll larn a lesson, eh?
*The reason for this confusion on the part of many drivers is, it's become relatively rare to see anyone flashing lights, day or nite, that drivers get all squirrelly. I've seen cars in daytime react dramatically, and not in a good way. So, I pick my times and methods. Sometimes, I'll just turn on and off ligths vs. hitting the high beams.
A federal judge in Missouri ruled this week held that drivers have a First Amendment right to flash their headlights to warn other motorists of nearby police and speed traps.
I always flash to warn other drivers of the looming speed trap no matter what I'm driving. Speeding tickets are not about public safety IMO, they are a revenue source for your local government....

I get as close as I can in the big truck and try to blow the revenue agents hat off.

I knew it wouldn't take long. It took just over an hour before one came out of the woodwork. There is always someone who is perfect.

Reason: missing period
I often ponder how many of these people that flash are the ones that complain about the drivers going 100 mph, tailgating, in and out of traffic and aggressive driving. Then they flash their lights helping the people they were just cussing who after passing the cop, go right back to their aggressive driving. hmmmm
