I still do it, but I think most haven't a clue. Just like flashing your lights at a truck to let him know he's clear, and can pull over, then for him to flash his christmas tree lights to say thanks. Most truckers today don't know wither.
I did not vote for oidiot and agree with them. Think about this. Before 1974 the speed limit was 70 most every where. Are you saying 75 on the freeway is unsafe? That is 15 to 20 over in many places. It was lowered by the liberal pub Nixon to save fuel. He was wrong to do it. If it was safe in 60s cars with bias tires and drum brkes it is more than safe in modern cars. The speed enforcement is just for revenue. If you can not see that you are not too bright.
Yes, that was the ruling in the Eastern District of Missouri Court (not even the 8th district yet). It has no bearing on law in Illinois. The Supreme Court would have to rule to set a precedent that Illinois can't fine you. Obamacare was ruled unconstitutional in Florida and the ruling was upheld on appeal meaning the whole law was invalidated both times. That didn't stop it, did it?
But, as Greg also discovered, we can't find anything that says it is illegal in Illinois statewide.

Either the WBBM radio report was erroneous or I misinterpreted it. Wouldn't be the first time. That said, I will not flash a warning while driving the vette as I don't need a citation for not running a front plate or some other chicken sh*t offense.
I live in Illinois too.
I cannot find any State Law that prohibits flashing of headlights for speed traps? Attachment 47766516
But the Smart phone app thing is over in Illinois too.
Motorists could still gab and drive if they use hands-free technology to conduct their conversations. Otherwise they’ll need to pull off the road to make a call or face fines starting at $75. The law takes effect Jan. 1
Cell Phones and Texting
Illinois is one of six states in which localities are allowed to ban cell phone use for all drivers.
All drivers of all ages are banned from texting and using a cell phone while driving. Only drivers over the age of 18 years old are permitted to use a hands-free device while operating a vehicle.
Other Illinois Law –
Scott’s Law says that if the emergency lights or siren are activated, all drivers must attempt to slow down and change to a lane away from the emergency vehicle. If changing lanes is not possible because of heavy traffic, drivers must slow down.
We see that sign that says speed limit enforced by Aircraft going up interstate 81 from the south end of Virginia to the north end going to Highway 66 and I have never in 13 years traveling that highway seen any aircraft enforcing speed limits.
In Illinois they use to fly a small plane above a major highway, small Cessna or something like it, they had large white lines paint on the highway for timing, and measured it somehow in the plane, if you were speeding they would radio ahead to an unmarked car and give him the info, he would pull you over and give you the ticket. This was a long time ago, not sure if they do it any more?
Every time the economy gets bad, it seems everyone is out to make money, and they can get very creative! The drone thing will start happening soon?
This is a cute picture - now an Attack Helicopter is a little over the line!
But it sure would get my attention!
LS3 verses Attack Helicopter? Not sure what the top speed is?
Should win the 0 to 60!

Always flash the lights to warn of these money traps.
Now I will ALWAYS do it. With my V1 detector I always know way ahead of time anyway,,,,,unless I am running alone. No detector can help you if you are running all by yourself. Longest distance warning by my V1,,,,,7 plus miles.
I flash as a courtesy. What gets me is how many times I'll flash to some f-idiot driving at night with their headlights off and they don't get the hint to put them on!
I don't worry about it unless it is a Vette owner. Then I can say I was just "waving". In Utah we can legally do 80 now anyway. Anything much above that is unsafe especially when you realize how lack of driving skills a lot of Americans have and/or their car really isn't built to go more than 80. They should slow big trucks down to around 65 though and keep them in the right lane.

I think the trucks have a governor for 65 or 70,but that might be just for trucking companys..??
I never do/did it. But I will flash for danger ahead - like stopped traffic around a blind curve or debris in the road. In the last 20 years I haven't been stopped for speeding. I just set the cruise at limit + 9 and I never get bothered. No reason to go faster than that on a public highway. I laugh when I see all the idiots jack their brakes when they see the cop as I just move to the left and pass them by. It's much easier to just set it and forget it.

Don't do that here in Utah...89 will get you a ticket.

Good qualifier... I've never seen an 80MPH sign. And even where the limit is 70 I'd still just go 74. I generally assume the higher the limit, the less leeway you'd get. That's reasonable.
