Default Replace or just cut?

So I'm not trying to be cheap here but my rear bumper skirt was melted a long time ago by my old exhaust. Long story short there was too much boost for the mufflers to stay on and it popped off quite a few times and deformed the plastic.

Looking online a new replacement is around $300 which is ridiculous as usual. I was considering just cutting the area that is warped and leaving it like that. The exhaust tips cover up most of the area but it is just annoying to look at.

My plan was to go from the right side edge and continue that line up past the curve right almost to where it meets the bumper itself and then cut across and do the same to the other side.

I leave on deployment in a few months so a new piece isn't a huge issue and when I get back I figured I may as well buy an aftermarket one anyways. So right now I just want it to look decent again.

Get out the cut off wheel and cut it around, shaped in a large radius.Make the other side the same too.

I'd trim it for now and replace later.
How much did it cost you to get "too much boost"? $300 doesn't seem like much to spend after that.

I wouldn't waste the effort. Replace it.

So I guess I shouldn't tell everybody I spent $2200 on a new axleback system afterwards?

It's not too much to replace it but there's honestly no point in doing it right now if I'm not driving the car for 7 months while I'm deployed. It's just an eyesore that most wont see but I notice it every time. I'm just curious to how it would look being cut higher... I can't remember what's behind the trim besides the exhaust brackets.

Put an ad in the parts section and tell your story. You might get a good deal there.
Otherwise, I would get a new carbon fiber diffuser.

It doesn't cost anything but a few minutes of your time to cut it. Maybe you'll end up liking it and decide to never replace it. The worst that could happen is that you hate it and then you can replace it whenever you want.

Thanks for serving.

Trim it so that it looks like it came that way. Nobody will know the difference.

I agree. I think if you cut it, you wont be able to stop looking at it critically. If you have the funds buy a new or used one.

Their list price is $729 new.... they still want $300 for it. This is why I think it's ridiculous. There's no way that plastic piece is anywhere near $700. I can buy a carbon fiber one for that much.

Down with the Vette tax!
