I don't have black wheels, but I would think that the first time you removed the wheels if not when you put them on that the paint would chip. I would think that Black lugs would be the way to go. Last point, are you telling us that you can buy a Corvette, then put on custom wheels and you are worried about the price of 20 lug nuts?
Definitely don't try to paint them. Ugh! I would recommend the black chrome version like supporting vendor, JW Motoring sells.
If those don't meet your need you might consider the black chrome lug nuts made by McGard, I used them on another vehicle for years and they were beautiful and very durable.
I got the black lug nuts from a different forum vendor. They're not matte, but you can't tell once they're on the wheels. Price was good. I'm running the stainless/chrome valve stems. Not sure what to do with them.

well my wheels are going to be off for about 2-3 weeks...so I have plenty of time to paint them black....debating just spraying them...clean them real good and tape off...then rattle can?
