What I found when comparing tires were the heights were pretty equal but the tread width varied a lot. Have to be very careful of that measurement when increasing tire size.

That site gives a good ballpark estimate of what will work on your car.

I just got off the phone with the Tech. at M/T he said the M/T 3227R which is there only 19" Drag Radial would not work with a 6-speed manual trans.. I talked with the Tech. at Nitto also but he did not ask what trans. manual or auto. so I will have to call him back later.

I'm not going to do the math for you, but for those who really want to know the safe limits, here's a workable formula.

Using the known diameter of the OEM tires and the tread depth, calculate the ratio when the OEM front tire tread is gone (aka bald) and the rear tires are new. Then calculate the ratio when the fronts are new and the rears are bald.

Those ratios are assured to fit within the GM programmed limits. The only way, short of a lot of experimentation, to know the exact limits, is to ask the GM programmer. (lots of luck with that )

Any front/rear tire combination that fits between the above calculated ratios will work without any nanny interference.

in my opion the M/T work fine on the road. drive anywhere you like.I havent gone anymore than 150 miles from home with them.if on a roadtrip I swap out extra rear rims with regular tires.this M/T is not made for road racing and you need to keep this in mind when they are mounted on car.they work fine at any speed I have driven them on the street with 30 lbs of air pressure.my car is an auto

Sorry to dig up an old thread but i've been doing some searching and the results are all over - before i start a thread let me ask here. I have Weld RTS s71's on the car - 17x8 up front and 17x11 on the rear. I didn't do my homework and thought I would be ok but I screwed up and am outside of the wheel diameter parameters. I just put some M&H Racemasters on the back 325/45/17 - up front is a Nitto 245/45/17. Can anyone help direct me in the right direction.. Taller tire up front? Would a 245/55/17 even be a smart tire to run on a vette? Do I have to run 18s upfront with that tall of a rear tire? I read online and was also told by the tire shop its possible to go into the ecu and change the parameters but I was under the impression that that BCM is responsible for triggering this situation not the ECM. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I have a 08 base with stock size 18" front tires and 305-30-19 General G-Max rs rears. Tires are great and sticky. But at 90ish traction control goes active. I use it as my govener. Hopefully, changing my fronts to a tire that is closer to rears will fix this.

Back up to post #24 to calculate assured limits for tire size combos. Check OEM dia and tread depth at Tirerack.
My first question would be: Do you have enough power and gear to require the 325/45x17 M&H? If so, then increase the front dia. Otherwise get more realistic for the rear size.
