Default Do I need shocks ??

I have a 2007 Z51 Coupe with 83,000 miles.
The shocks feel good, I do not bounce over bumps.
Do I need to replace them ? and what is a good replacement shock.

Thanks Tom

Are they worn out? Why do you think you need to replace them? Just drive it. It will be ok.

So why do you think you need to replace them if they are working fine?

I don’t think there is a specific mileage on when a shock needs to be replaced because it depends on many different factors (driving style, road conditions, etc) so if it is still performing well, then keep it. If you are worried, replacing them with a new set of Z51 shocks is relatively inexpensive. You can hit up some of the forum vendors for prices but I think a new set of Z51 shocks will run you about $250 for all 4. (Don’t quote me on that because I might be wrong)

You probably do not need new shocks as yours are likely not worn out...but...there is lots of room for improvement on any of the oem shocks. Koni, Bilstein are two names to consider. Much better wheel control on bumpy surfaces with either of these over oem shocks, especially Z51 shocks.

Look closely at the shock bodies, if you see a light sheen of oil or obvious oil soaked dust, its time for replacements. Otherwise if the car drives fine and the shock bodies appear dry but dusty, they are good.

Shocks to me are a large driving factor in the way a car drives and handles. new shocks will often make a car feel new again like nothing else will. Also when your shocks wear out, it happens over time so it's almost impossible to notice. With 80k miles, I'd change them out. There are plenty of options both factory and aftermarket. Do some research here on the forum and you will find the best route for your use and driving style. I replaced mine with Pfadt shocks at about 40k miles and it was well worth the money IMO

Yes, change shocks to Bilstein HDs and change your end links at the same time.... handling improvement will amaze you. Oh, and unless you've had an alignment recently get an alignment too.....
