So I've had my dream car for about a week and 2 days after stretching my budget a little. Yesterday, someone pulled straight into me from a blind intersection while I was just minding my business coasting towards a red light below speed. The car is currently sitting at an autoshop. The kicker? Unlicensed, uninsured, questionably-legal, non-English speaking neighbors from our southern border.
My question is, I have a mixture of cracks, scuffs, and holes. How will the shop go about fixing it? Do they replace all panels? Is there a way of fixing fiberglass? Will Roxanne ever look as good as she did?
Also, how are wheels and tires treated under insurance?
Any driver without insurance should spend at least 24 hours in jail after causing an accident until they can prove whom they are etc.
Sorry about the mess, that sucks
I 110% agree... Especially now. Yet I'm pretty sure they got to drive away. I'm not sure if they finally showed up with identification or what. The cop wasn't especially helpful.

Make them replace everything. Will be good as new. GL
Fortunately, I had switched from my 30 day overlap with State Farm to full everything on Tuesday. So I'll be out a deductible and that's it.
If I have the option, it will definitely be all new body panels everywhere.
Sorry that happened. What happened to the illegals?
As far as I saw, a friend in a pick up truck came and picked up their bumper, and then they drove the car away.

How did both sides end up damaged?
Got bounced into the Acura that you see in the front right of the picture above. I was fortunate enough and the car was low enough that I only hit her wheel. She said it was just a little red paint and didn't take my information despite offering it multiple times. She was also nice enough to stick around as a witness. There are still good people in this world.

That's what I was sincerely hoping would happen, full replacements. I'll DEFINITELY make sure the alignment is set before leaving.

That much damage to the fender makes it probably cheaper to replace than repair. You are right to demand an alignment. As for the wheels...depending on damage/scuff they might want to just repair. I had a similar situation and demanded (through an attorney) the insurance company give me a letter saying the damaged wheel was repaired and is perfectly safe. They replaced the wheel.
Good luck with the repairs.

I doubt seriously that most shops would repair the panels, just re-skin with new. Wheels can be straightened, painted, etc., so they may actually be less of a problem that SMC (aka "fiberglass"). Good luck with it, and yes, there are still good people around.

Thanks for the reply. I figured the front driver's side fender was a definite replacement. What do you think about the other panels? The driver's side door/rear corner has a chunk missing where you can see the white fibers sticking out. The shop wasn't sure they'd be able to repair the wheels. If that was the case, would they replace with like wheels, or would they have to use OEM?
The police should take the "visitors" car until they make restitution.
They should do ANYTHING. I don't know how they get to leave the accident in anything but handcuffs when the cop literally says to me "I'm not sure if they're legal", granted, that was towards the beginning of the process... but anyways, I digress...

I thought the same thing! Shame they couldn't drive it
