I agree.....it may flow more air or it may not but I think it looks a lot better than the stock unit.....and it does sound great when getting on it.

I am suspecting that when people see gains with just the intake and no tuning that it's the relocation of the sensor tricking the ECU and that you could get the same results as part of a tune and just leaving it in the OEM location. If I'm right, this explains the "gains" the all the manufacturers claim and why it's a slight of hand.

I think the real test of my theory would be to tune a stock car on a dyno and run it. Then revert the ECU back to stock, install an intake run it for numbers again. Then tune it with the intake and run it again. Compare ALL the pulls and see what happened. The tuner would need to be honest enough not to manipulate the tunes to show results he wants.

thoughts?
You can't duplicate real driving conditions on a dyno, especially those conditions that include moving through air. Since the controlling factor for power is the amount of air that can be processed, how it is introduced to the engine is of great importance.

At the dragstrip, the car moves through the air at a changing rate and the location of the inlet makes a difference whether it's in an area of increasing, decreasing, or static pressure and temperatures.

I really don't know if a Vararam would out perform my converted OEM LS3/LS7 style CAI in my car. But what I can say is that if you check the C6 & C7 ! "bolt-on" 1/4 mile record lists running the "same" style of bolt-ons, i.e. Headers, CAI (Vararam or whatever), tune, and tires the heavier than base body Grand Sport wins!!! At least the last time I checked which was not that lone ago. The C7 has a CAI style air intake assembly from the factory, I wonder why GM did that? Also that 3 tenths pick-up between OEM and modified OEM was the only change on a otherwise stock GS.

PS: My bolt-on trap speed at 125 MPH "really" KICKS BUTT!!. Oh, and I think second place in bolt-on GS is running a Vararam and a custom dyno tune. Check it "all" out.

the stock design is good and does have some ducting to it, plus when you're moving all the heat is back on the firewall

this is why I would like to see a test like the one I proposed done, we can answer this with science.
cutting a hole in the radiator shroud and sealing off leaks from inside the engine bay Is cold air intake.

C.....cold
A.....air
I......intake

air brought in from outside the engine bay is considered to be Cold Air.
This is a simple principal and really not that hard to understand, no matter which devise you use to accomplish it.

More detail? Why do you prefer the stock airbox for your 2011?

The VARARAM is the BEST, has always been...and will always be.....

From a tuners standpoint, it offers the cleanest maf signal...most horsepower, and the the guys that

run the company are THE BEST!

Here at Corvettes of Westchester we have never, and will never sell anything other than the VARARAM!

Read your install instructions carefully.... Measure twice....cut once....and be sure to READ and understand the instructions BEFORE you get started.

With a VARARAM, you can't go wrong.

Most other intakes we have tuned case airflow "anomalies" which cause idle and decel problems and while they install

easier it's just NOT worth it.

YOU WILL NOT MAKE AN MORE POWER WITH ANY OTHER INTAKE....PERIOD.
