Need advice on purchasing a C6.

OK guys. Here is more like what I was looking for. There is a C5 thread that has some different links and post on what to look for when buying a C5. Problems areas to check, fixes for those problems if you find a car that has problems, recalls, improvements that should be made, etc. etc. I was hoping to be pointed to something like this on the C6 forum. I do think the LS3 is the best car, but it would be at the top of my price range, but doable for the right car. I think I want a manual, but have heard a lot of good things about the paddle shift automatics. Pretty sure I want the 3LT trim level, but might settle for the 2. Still undecided on coupe or convertible. I like the security of the coupe, but have also seen some after market hardtops for the convertible. (If anyone has experience with those and could give me feedback on that.) Like the GS, but again maybe to pricy and not sure I would be running the car hard enough to justify the stiffer ride that comes with it. Ideas on GS is appreciated too. The type of driving I will be doing is cruising and some curves. Probably 75% back roads which would include moderately aggressive driving. Does the season in which you buy a Corvette make a difference on price? It seems when I first started looking back in the winter (before I was really prepared to make a move) that prices were quite a bit lower. I saw a 2010 GS Coupe with 4,500 mile on it and 3LT trim, go for $35,000 on eBay. I haven't seen anything that came even close in the last few months. I agree my first post was a little vague, so maybe this explains more what I am looking for. Last, I am considering a C5 as well, more because of pricing and looks than anything else. I do like the looks of the C5 a little better, but I know the C6 is a much better car overall. IMO. Thoughts?
Thanks for your input.

^the LS2 is great and the LS3 is better. I figure that is fair to start.

Do you want an auto or a manual? What's the intended purpose of the car? Will you drag race it? Depending on how you answer those questions will determine what years would be better than others.

Example being if you want to drag race, stay away from an 05 since their rearends are way more fragile than later models. If it's just a nice day car where you want to cruise around, then there is nothing wrong with an 05.

Do you plan on modding the car? If you want to put a blower or turbo on it, then LS2 vs LS3 doesn't matter as much. If you wanted to keep it to bolts ons and maybe a cam I would get an LS3. You can get 480-500rwhp pretty easy out of an LS3 without a crazy cam. The Spinmonster spec cam is a 230/234 cam that has made between 480-510rwhp on an LS3 depending on supporting mods(headers, ported intake manifold, cold air intake, etc).

I've seen 1LT and 3LT 2008's for $30k-$33k in the past few days. What's your budget?

Get a C6 with an LS3 if you can find what you are looking for and can afford it. However, you can't go wrong with the LS2 platform either - I own a 2006 Z51 with an LS2 that gets over 500rwhp, naturally aspirated. If you purchase one that has been modified, make sure the seller can produce receipts & documentation listing whom and what specifically was performed. Good luck!

I looked at your previous post to see if there was any info we could use to help you, here are some of them:

The last time I owned a Corvette was I had a 79 in 1985. Needless to say many things have changed. I am open to any suggestions.

I have done this before on motorcycles and the outcome was good. Still open for any suggestions or ideas. I am 57 years old and will probably own this car the rest of my life.

I am considering a coupe, manual transmission or auto with paddle shift. LT2 preferred. Just have to get out there and start looking. Any suggestions on what you consider to be the right car, please contact me. I like to learn as much as I can when making a purchase, so all help is welcomed.

I'm not sure its worth it. There are many other cars out there that are so much easier to buy.

I think you are on the correct path, but the point others are trying to make is no one but you know if you want a coupe or a vert; an auto or manual. We can suggest a color but it's going to be our favorite color which might not be yours. We don't know your budget.

Part of the fun is the hunt so keep at it and don't settle, you'll regret it later. Take your time and figure out exactly what you want.

Good luck with the search.

Buy a low-mileage, pristine LS3 car ('08 and above) - and buy it at a reasonable price from a motivated seller.

I prefer Coupe with auto trans. I would like Z06 power, but not willing to suffer with non-removable top, harsh ride and shifting gears. But this is strictly my choice. Also, keep your eye out for a "NPP" exhaust system. This is something you want IMHO, it is quiet at cruise but barks a little when you hammer it. Nothing worse than some aftermarket exhaust with a loud drone.....

Good luck in your search!

I agree go with a 2008 and above. All Corvettes are great but the LS3's are special.
