My wife and I went up to the Big Bear Corvette Bash today (not planned). 85 degrees out and a nice 65 mile drive that included about 25 miles of well maintained mountain roads. When we arrived at Big Bear Lake (Southern California) we were greeted by parking lots with large sections roped off with "Corvette Parking only" signs and local businesses with "Welcome Corvettes" signs in their windows. I think this is the 30th annual event here. They really made us feel welcome. AutoX, lunch, dinner, volleyball, Corvettes and Corvette owners all over the small town and an organized cruise around the lake. Pretty cool way to spend the day. Here are a couple of photos.
That brings back a lot of memories. We moved from the Palm Springs area about 9 years ago to MN. We did not have a corvette in CA but almost every Sunday in the summer we would load our three dogs into our little airplane and fly from Thermal airport up to Big Bear City airport, about a 20 minute flight. It was so hot in the desert where we lived that the dogs would burn their feet when we took them for a walk on the pavement. The temperature was always about 30 to 40 degrees cooler when we would land, with Big Bear in the mountains at 6750' msl and Thermal in the desert at -70' msl. The dogs loved getting out of the desert and going for long walks in the cool mountain air, and so did we. And, who knew that they were so "corvette friendly"? Thanks for sharing.
