So I was driving yesterday and I see the check engine light on. Carmax says its a misfire code and its gonna have to go to the dealer. Anyone have any experience with a misfire code? Car is a 2012 with 5k on it.
Without knowing the exact code you won't get a definitive answer. My suggestion is to pull the covers over the coil packs and check to make sure that a plug wire has not come loose or fallen out of one of the coils. Good to check them at the spark plugs while in there.

Well, here's an unusual thread. I agree totally with every reply you have gotten so far. Loose plug wire is most common cause but without knowing which of the dozens of "misfire" codes....

rkoeniger,
I realize how displeasing it can be when faced with a lit check engine light, and though you're seeking thoughts and opinions, I would be happy to communicate this situation with the designated Customer Experience Manager at your preferred dealer if you feel an official diagnosis is necessary. Feel free to message us privately if you'd like to proceed, or discuss this situation further.
