The new replacement for my camera now extends to a little over 1000mm, really awesome, and still around $400 on sale.
These next shots are a good example. I spotted a hawk in a tree with my binoculars.
Too far away to see with the naked eye. I marked it with a red arrow.
Then kept pulling in more and more lens with each shot. The final snap is a little out of focus and low on light, but understandable.

that's amazing, at 1000mm you are approaching 30x magnification! what brand is the lense? did you use a tripod?
That little EOS Rebel is a nice DSLR. I thought about getting it but I wanted a super lens built in that I could run out to 800mm.

Almost ran the lawnmower over this little guy....
As destructive as these little bastards are over the winter on our shrubs, I should kill the little sob, but I just can't do it...

[QUOTE=2 GTOs;1587511033]For some reason I just got way more tolerant of the deer regularly around my house.[/property]
Our property in Maryland is full of deer every day and they have no fear of people at all. I don't even think of them as wildlife any more.
Here's a picture I took in my yard with my cell phone (sorry for the poor quality) while walking my dog yesterday. ( And my dog is a 130lb tan Great Dane, so she looks kind of like a deer as well. )

Has a lot of DSLR features, combined with the simplicity of a "point 'n shoot". Fairly inexpensive.
Most folks including me, just ignore him, I suggest you do the same.

I enhanced the grasshopper photo for you. A little contrast really helps it "Pop".
