Default Power top problem

I just got a C6 Vert with power top. When you raise the top the tonneau top hangs on the window frame as it comes down. Anybody had this problem. It works but makes a horrible noise.

Common problem. There are elastic cords in the top that are supposed to pull the bottom of the top forward far enough to allow the tonneau to pass. The cords, or straps, can be shortened to tighten them up again or they can be replaced. I, stress I, don't consider it a DIY job but I think a couple owners here have done it. Generally your best bet is take it to the dealer if under warranty or if no warranty search out a local shop that knows Vette vert tops.

Edit: Oh, or you can get in the habit of reaching back and holding the bottom of the top for a few seconds each time.

I do as Rick T said and many others. Just reach back with your right hand and gently pull forward on the bottom fold when the top is folded up. Takes all of 2 seconds and the big plus is it will not be sitting at a chevy dealer all day.

I just took a pair of scissors and added a "moon roof." I get nothing but stares now.

Yep, my 2012 GS vert starting thumping the window frame after say maybe 100 or so up/downs of the top. The dealer told me they could replace the straps but once those stretch, well likely it would just start doing it again. So I decided a year ago to just do the reach over my shoulder grab. It's easy and it works. Not an eloquent solution but I don't want them tearing my entire top down (they told me the straps are inside the top, between the top of the top and the liner if that makes any sense. Especially since it would likely only be a short term fix. I've heard folks talking about this who own some of the early C6's, 05's, 06's etc. And you'd think GM would fix the problem after it hangs around for numerous years. But apparently not..

Anyway I use the two finger grab to gently tug forward as the tonneau cover passes by. Works well. Just not eloquent for such a nice car.

Also happens when the seats are all the way back and raised up enough. With the seats all the way back and all the way down, or up and forward enough it won't happen.

Actually, GM did fix the problem with the new C7 model. They changed the design of how the tonneau cover works. Instead of lifting up on it's rear hinge as the C5 and C6's do, it raises and slides back. No more close call with the partially raised convertible top. It can also be operated at up to 30 mph while our earlier versions had to have the vehicle at a full stop. There are some things I do like on the C7 and this is one of them. Wish my C6 had this design.

Welcome to the world of Corvette power tops. This is a common problem as well as other issues with the power top. As some have stated....become a custom to the "Two Finger Holdback" dance....LOL. Definitely not worth taking to a dealer and possibly getting it back in worse condition then when they got it.

Thanks Guys. I have been doing the two finger hold method but just wondered if there was a fix.

My top liner was replaced at 5K mi. due to a tear (warranty, whew). Almost immediately afterward I had the two-finger problem. So, two fingers it is!

Default Tonneau cover not closed problem

Hi

I put my top down for the first time since i picked it up (2007) yesterday and everything went perfectly until the tonneau cover was almost down. I heard a motor still going and there was a 1/2" gap when it stopped coming down. Information center said Tonneau cover not down.

I called the dealer and he said to bring it over and he will take car of it. The question is did i do something wrong?

Thanks

Alan

Maybe not. I had this problem when mine was new. The dealer had to replace a latch, catch or something. Good Luck!

Did it work properly when you inspected and tested everything including the top operation at the dealership before you bought it?

Did you return the header release handle to the closed position after releasing the top from the header? The handle will hit the underside of the top storage cover if you don't.

Hi

No i never tested it because they gave me a bumper to bumper warranty.

I called them and they said to bring it in and they will fix it.

All that i can say is that the Rick Hendrick dealership is awesome.

Alan

PS i will try the top again tomorrow
