My question is this why in the world would any 1 buy parts for their car when they charge your CC right away and then they don't even ship your stuff for 4-5 weeks. Sounds like a mom and pop operation that has no $$$ to have any inventory in stock. I for 1 don't like paying for anything i don't get timely. It's not like it is custom painted or any thing like that .
Well actually, the places that do that are custom making whatever part is ordered. Unless it's just a place that is like a 3rd party and has to order it from some other place etc etc..that's friggin annoying.
I agree it sucks but that's the way a lot of vendors are doing it nowadays. I always use my Discover card which has a generous time frame (like a year) to dispute charges in case something goes wrong.

Any 1 feel this way?
If it bothers you that much, buy from someone else.

Why are you that concerned about what others do?
My feelings as well.
The vendors doing it have their reasons. It's your responsibility to determine stock level and to buy it from your supplier of choice. A lot of things are made-to-order or made in batches.. or some suppliers can offer pretty steep discounts by drop shipping. I just ordered an exhaust system for 150$ less than I could find elsewhere by allowing them to drop ship - had to wait an extra 4 days, but it was worth it.
lots of variables come into play. pay with a credit card in case someone can't deliver. find a supplier with inventory in stock if it bothers you.
I also thought it was a reasonable question. Just to see what others had to say...use the forum as a sounding board to see if your reaction to the experience was reasonable...and probably the most, just to do a little venting. Then you get these negitive responses that kinda kills the whole thread. Says something about the people who share their wisdom with you. AND yes if the ship date was longer than I anticipated, I would cancell the order and go elsewhere.
Valid question requesting valid responses. I'm sure a lot of people get good feedback and advice from this forum...
I had the same problem, ordered thursday, did not have by next thurs(vendor 65 miles away!)...he said HE would have it the NEXT DAY and would ship Mon...CANCELLED....TOOK 2 MORE CALLS TO GET A CREDIT,!
I agree with OP. If you don't have it in stock, you better tell me right away. Communication is the key. If there is a problem or delay, tell me, don't wait for me to call you. Technology today offers so many ways to get in touch with someone that it's ridiculous not to.

If I recall the 'contracts' that VIS/MC have, it is against the law to post a charge to your card unless the product is readily available to process... meaning there should be no weeks of waiting to ship or provide.

Any reputable vendor won't charge until they ship. They will sometimes, however ask for a deposit for custom built to order products.
I make it a point not to deal with any who don't follow this very basic business practice. (at least not more than once)

The Rule requires that when you advertise merchandise, you must have a reasonable basis for stating or implying that you can ship within a certain time. If you make no shipment statement, you must have a reasonable basis for believing that you can ship within 30 days. That is why direct marketers sometimes call this the "30-day Rule."
If, after taking the customer’s order, you learn that you cannot ship within the time you stated or within 30 days, you must seek the customer’s consent to the delayed shipment. If you cannot obtain the customer’s consent to the delay -- either because it is not a situation in which you are permitted to treat the customer’s silence as consent and the customer has not expressly consented to the delay, or because the customer has expressly refused to consent -- you must, without being asked, promptly refund all the money the customer paid you for the unshipped merchandise.
