Default AVELECTRONIC Backup Camera Interface

My neighbor and I installed the AVELECTRONIC Backup Camera Interface, license frame mount camera and wireless transmitter modules on my 2011 Grand Sport with factory navigation. It works great. AVELECTRONIC support was terrific too. I broke the interface connector board connector during my first try and they replaced it, no questions asked.

Default AVELECTRONIC Backup Camera interface install

1. 1st you should look at AVELECTRONIC.com; they send you fair instructions and there are links to an installation into a BMW. Instructions caution to use professional installation but my neighbor, who has worked a lot on his Z06, and I were able to do it with only one glitch. A connector on the interface's signal splitter board broke while we were inserting it into the head unit, the trickiest part of the process and it's not shown in the instructions. I called AVELECTRONIC and they sent me a new one without charge. There are different model interfaces for different Corvette generations. I'm not sure about C4's since your user name is 96GS.

2. First I searched the internet and found an excellent video on removal of the C6 console and Nav unit.

3. We used a fuse tap in the fuse panel to tap the reverse lights circuit to power the interface and receiver.

4. To power the camera and transmitter I tapped the wires going into one of the reverse lights.

5. Materials used:
a. AVELECTRONIC NAV Multi A/V Switcher $375
b. Littelfuse FHM200BP Mini Add-Circuit $7 (any auto parts shop)
c. Speaker wire 10 ft
d. Backup Camera, license plate mounted $13 (Amazon.com)
e. Wireless video transmitter/receiver set $11 (Amazon.com)
f. Wire taps 2
g. Wire nuts 3 Blue
h. Crimp wire to wire connectors 2
k. Wire ties 4
l. Crimp wire to screw wire connector 1
m. Double sticky back velcro tape 6 square inches to mount the interface and receiver on the fire wall and transntter behind the rear facia.

6. Tools:
a. Bit driver with Torx, Philips head and nut driver bits
b. Wire crimping/stripping/cutting tool
c. Electrical tape
d. Sharpe marker
f. Fine needle nose pliers
g. Trim tools may be helpful

7. Time: 6hrs less time to get replacement splitter board.

So this uses the factory nav screen as a monitor? How is the image quality? The factory nav screen is very low resolution so I would think video image quality would be lacking.

Awesome info Harvey I'm looking at this relative to my 2013

Regarding the image, the website that Harvey references has a Gallery...

Considering I'm just thinking of using this for the back-up camera, I think it looks pretty good.
