I have a 2007 Convertible. I have owned it for 4 years. On two recent occasions I have smelled a gas Oder in the car. Not all the time, but recently.
I filled it up and always instruct the attendant (live in NJ where U can not pump your own gas) that when the hose stops, do not try to put more in.
What do U think why there is a gas odor, which, by the way, dos go away.
If the odor is most prevalent just after filling the tank and dissipates as the level in the tank goes down, you may have a leaking joint in the crossover tube between the tanks. There is a lot of information on the site about this problem, including a great tutorial on how to fix it.
Just had this happen to me. Dealership found a cracked fuel pump, cross over tube and some fuel lines. All were replaced. Around $1800 including labor. The tanks had to be dropped.
Had a gas smell in my 07 also. Did not go away till level was bellow 1/2 tank. Dealer did a smoke test and found a cracked evap line off the fuel pump. Replaced the fuel pump under power train warranty. $1500 billed to GM.
