The dealer is unable to reprogram the TPMS on my '13, I got a TPMS warning on the DIC it shows XXX for the left rear all others ok at 30#
3 trips to Van Chevy in Scottsdale the tech said the horn beeps twice but then he is unable to reprogram any of the wheels, he said the computer is NOT going into the learn mode, I have another appt. next Monday so he can confer with GM & plug a computer into the fuse block for more info, this all started a week ago when the Left Rear read 35# with the others at 30# when I checked with my digital gauge it read 30# so then the next day it went into error mode showing XXX for just that tire, is there anything I could try before going back in? disconnect battery ? remove rear wheel for a short time ? any ideas, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks..
I had the exact same problem on my GS. Front right tire showed XX. Tire shop replaced the sensor and I was on my way.
It ain't rocket science, it's a bad sensor. IMO
The first thing I said is to replace the sensor, but he told me it's not the sensor because the car is not responding on any wheel to the programing tool, I'm just caught in the middle, you guys are probably right on the money with a defective sensor.. thanks for your input

I would think you have warranty on the car, and tell them to make it right, and if they have to call the GM rep to look at your car, that's what they get paid for, troubleshooting tech's that can't fix problems. The tech supposedly can't throw parts on a car hoping to fix problem, they aren't allowed, BUT the rep can do anything he feels like, and replace any part without having to report to GM what they replaced a part.
I would suspect their tool isn't working and activating the sensors at each wheel. Are they getting readings for all the wheels including the left rear?

He(technician) said he is not getting a response to any wheel, you would think he checked the operation of the programing tool, it is under warranty, but already 3 trips to the dealer Van Chevy of Scottsdale, Az and another trip planned for next Monday (5th) they must think I have nothing better to do.

Sounds like he doesn't know what he's doing. Tool on wrong frequency for a 13 or batteries low. Can you try going to a good tire shop to get there opinion?
My personal thought is that they schedule me for a 30 min. repair, and then they realize it needs a new sensor which may take an hour or more (just guessing) so they keep rescheduling me to when it's not so busy, the service rep. did say he is swamped with work being a holiday week, may have something to do with it, I'll see what Monday brings but GM will be contacted by me when all said & done to what has transpired.

I bought my own relearning tool for ~$22 but this is what I would do.
good luck!
As you are under warranty I would point it out to the Service Manager. If you meet resistance I would then open a complaint with GM. Truthfully I would just go to another dealership to get the problem resolved.
This is the reason that must of us own our own TPMS reset tools (you missed the boat on the cub pro-101 tool for $19).
With the cub tool, I can check the sensor's to make sure that they are still good good with the tool alone, then put the car into relearn mode to relearn them to the car.
As for a tip, when you go to relearn the sensors, need to do so with some room around the car, hence outside works the best. Also, he could not get the car to relearn a single sensor, the tool was not in the correct mode to trigger the TPMS's so the car could relearn them.

Depending on the tool it will show you the sensor is responding. How is he putting the car in learn mode? That may be the issue, use the Tech 2 and go that route.

He pushes 2 buttons on my fob then the horn honks twice signaling it's in the learn mode

Yep, car was in learn mode, but the tool was not triggering the TPMS to send a signal so the car could relearn them.
And again, depending on the tool, you can trigger the tpms and get a reading back on the tool to make sure it in the right mode/tpms are triggering, even before you put the car in learn mode.
Supposedly Van Chevy is one of the largest corvette dealers in Phoenix area, was told they have 2 vette specialist, I know looking at their service area there was at least 6 being worked on just today, so I have to assume they know what to do. But 4 trips to have something done that should've been done the first time is unacceptable, just got that feeling of being yanked around!
go to a gateway or another of the big tire shops...they will know how to properly program the sensors sine I'm sure they do this daily. by doing so you can rule out operator/tool error. good luck!!
