Default Brake pad material question

Hi all,

2007 with Z51...

What was the factory pad material for the two brake systems.

J55 (Z51) was Semi-metallic, pretty aggressive and dirty.
JL9 (Base brakes) was it Semi-metallic or Ceramic from the factory?

Thanks for any input..

All C6 friction material until 2012 was semi metallic. PBR was the supplier.
In 2012 GM used the first ceramic friction for the base C6. It was the Performance friction made by Akebono. The GS, Z06 and ZR1 still used a semi metallic friction.

Thanks, if the material was semi-metallic across the board. What was the difference between Z51 and Base pad material? Would the JL9 standard pads be less aggressive and dust less than the Z51(J55) pads?

Not the (2012) GS.....mine (M6) and a friends (A6) are (were) the super dusty, fast wearing, rotor eating semi-metallic pads. I changed mine out to the ceramic pads at 2K, and my friends out at 21K.

Ditto, and huge fan of the J55 heavy duty brake pads (evil brake dust and all) since they have more bite than the standard JL9 pads).

As I stated before, all GS, Z06, ZR1 came with semi metallic pads. As for your A6 friend it would depend on when his model was made as to what came OE. Also the Performance ceramic pad that was used was a much more aggressive ceramic pad then that you buy at a big box store.

Mild hijack here...

2006 C6 Base Model with JL9 brakes.

I'm replacing rear brake pads.

It appears the stock pads are ACDelco 1711094 semi-metallic pads.

I'm considering replacing with ACDelco 17D732CH ceramic pads. Seems to be a popular replacement choice.

This is a daily-driven non-track vehicle that my wife drives as a grocery getter.

Thoughts?

Replace the fronts too...you don't want to upset the brake balance.
