I'm 65. I bought my 2010 GS Vert new and since then I've done CAI, Headers, B&B Fusion cat-back and Custom Performance tune.
(Among hundreds... better make that Thousands of dollars in cosmetic mods, spoiler, splitter, side skirts, floormats, trunk mats, LED's, Custom FRC's, wheels/tires, the list goes on forever!)
I'm planning to do the Performance Driving Event at Bloomington Gold this year, several laps around the track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway! I heard there is going to be a speed limit..... hope it's 140+!
I am a few months away from turning 69 and I have AR long tubes hi-flow cats cold air and a tune on my '07. A group from the club I am in will be getting together on the 21st of this month for a day auto crossing and in a few months we will be at Sebring for the weekend.
I'll be 72 in a few weeks.
After a lifetime of owning 400+hp muscle cars, I am now very content with the stock performance from my 436hp GS.
I still enjoy banging a few gears and some spirited driving occasionally, but mods, and the 1/4 mile, no longer hold any interest for me.
Thanks for all of your replies. I'm not surprised by the percentage of guys doing the performance upgrades. We grew up in one of the best eras for true muscle cars.
Not to say that what's going on now with factory cars isn't good . . . just different.
I live in Chicago, which was the home of Nickey Chevrolet and Grand Spaulding Dodge. The cars that came out of these dealerships were truly special.
Just curious how many of us 50 plus guys or gals still do performance modifications (SC/Cam/Heads/Headers) and go racing in one way or another.
Would be interested to hear from you either way.
Thanks!
Really...you asking my age... The answer is a simple yes.
SC added, ATI pulley, 160 stat, last year. This winter the headers go on, no cats, MGW shifter, support bracket for the diff....all this done so I can try it at a couple tracks this year. Want to see what it can do without getting a ticket.
I'm 63. I learned from my last Vette that pouring money into the Vette gets nothing back when it comes time to get rid of it. So Instead of adding extras, I just bought the 427 and I'm happy with it. Plenty of hp.
Going to get a little drag racing in this year like I did in the late 60's, would also like to try a little aotucross l'm 65. Not any wild mod's just intake and exhaust, but.like to push it to the limit every now and then.
I'm 56. My '11 GS is in the process of getting headers, x-pipe, Lingenfelter cam and head work, cold air intake, tuner, wheels, and a complete new sound system. I still do track days, as well as a few drag strip runs when I have time. I also have an SCCA licence.
I also still compete in endurance motorcycle rallies. Last year I rode over 10,500 miles in less than 10 days. I also ride a WR450 in the dirt.
Being 50 or 60 doesn't mean we have to stop having fun!
I'm only 73, but still like to tinker and play. Full boltons + 4000 Yank on my 123K mile '08. I do my own mechanical work and now tuning too. Driven it to 47 States and most recently to CA just to play.
This is one of my off-road playgrounds so far with this car. 3 in AZ, 2 each in CA and NJ, plus 1 in OH and FL. Looking forward to playing in MD and maybe the Carolinas this year.
