Im looking for the cheapest way to add an AUX input in my 07 base 1lt vette. I don't have XM radio. Any info would be helpful. All I want is to plug my phone in to play music.

The quickest and cheapest way is to get an FM transmitter (check on eBay). It plugs into your phone, and most allow you to turn to one of many frequencies. The FM radio then plays your phone/iPod etc.

Ditto on this quicker, but the problems is that you can get some signal degradation with the FM system.
The cheaper way is to just add a aux jack to the radio itself. The requires installing a jack into the face plate, then clipping and soldering in the jack to the bus wires in the unit.
Just like Ray did. Inside the console on the right front side. I used a dremel to shave down the backside of the plastic so the jack would be able to get the nut on. Sorry no pics. The car is covered up for the winter. I keep the cord inside the console and just plug in the iPhone whenever I want to hear my tunes instead of Sirius/XM.
SO i checked this out but im a little confused still. From what i understand id have to install a sir-gm1 first then hook up an AUX cable to that since i dont have the xm option? Is this correct?

Personally I would keep the $200 and purchase a new head unit.
You can purchase a decent one for $400 which includes bluetooth, aux in, phone mirroring, pandora etc etc.
The new head units are leaps and bounds better vs the older oem bose unit. The volume adj on the bose in my 06 was starting to crap out after aprox 5 years...junk imho

i don't like the install of the other unit due to having to hide wires, too much and seems a little complicated to me. doesn't anyone on here have a usb port anywhere in the car to play music thru a flash drive? or is it just the 012 and 013 that came with the aux. and usb port? the new head unit option to me is the better way to go.

If I didn't have Nav I would have already installed a new unit. Having everything integrated is way better than a patch where you have to switch to XM in order to hear a phone call through the speakers. My only holdup for switching is I don't want to lose turn by turn on the HUD. However, I've used the car GPS so infrequently since I bought it last June, I am close to doing the swap.

Correct.
The sir-gm1 will create a XM band on the car radio, then it's that band input on the radio that you are tapping with the harness to jump the input signal into the stereo.
With some of the other non GM type devices like the ISimple ISGM655 with bluetooth, the XM band has to be activated on the radio via a Tech II tool by the dealer ($100+ charge) for the radio to activate the XM band in the first place. The positive here, instead of the radio only displaying a XM band that is not playing, it will display the media player information instead.
