I know that this thread has been around forever but i just recently discovered it. I would like to hear impressions from anyone who did this mod. Still happy with it? Any issues? Would you do it again? I have an 08 vert & would like just a little more rumble. Thanks in advance.

Simple mod, no change out, just drill thru outer muffler shell thru both sides of internal pipe with hole saw than cap shell. Supposed to increase volume.

What I did was drill a hole with a hole saw and of 1 &1/4 inch through the out shell of the muffler near the back. Then I drilled a 1 inch hole through the internal pipe and that is completely through. I then patched the outer shell where I drilled the first hole.
I did this just as a temporary fix until I purchased a set of cat backs. That was a little over 2 years ago. Saved myself a bunch of money.
I tried it last year and it did sound good. but on the highway there was a drone. So I removed the mod by clamping a patch over the hole. an resealing the muffler.
I did the mod on my 2008 coupe, using a one inch hole. It did make a little more sound, but not much. There was some drone when cruising down the highway at 70 mph.
I did not think it sounded "good" (IMHO). Honestly, it reminded me of a car with a hole in the muffler. If I had it to do over, I would skip it and just buy different mufflers.
(I changed mine to a pair of Z06 bimodes)
did it last week, took about 1/2 hr
probably not as good as NPP, but it's cheap, works, and the stock exhausts are worthless, so if you do not like it, spend the $$ and replace
I also did the 7/8" hole with 1/2" electrical plugs
I did the mod on my 06 vert and it was better than stock, however I did have some drone at highway speeds. I ended up putting on NPP with a controller and it is 1000% better. I'd do the NPP before I took a drill to the stock exhaust.
Hey if those mufflers are laying around collecting dust i might take you up on your offer. I wouldn't mind trying them out on my 08 vert without having to drill mine. Do you know if its a simple change out?
It is waaaaay easier to drill them out than it is to change out a set of mufflers. If you are unhappy with the stock mufflers drill out what you have and see if you like it. Maybe it will work out for you and maybe not. Worst case you wasted about an hour of your life drilling them out (max) and you'll end up buying a new set of aftermarket mufflers anyhow. I drilled mine out (unhappy) and changed to NPP (very happy) on jack stands in my garage without a lift.
Did mine about 6 years ago...love the sound and all is still fine with them. They are stainless so nothing could really go wrong with them long term anyway.
Start small, see how you like it and then you can go bigger if you want to. I enlarged the through hole on mine twice after being happy with the effect.

Worked great on my 05 LMB vert! not excessive loud, but can at least hear the engine running! do it.

What size did you start with and what size is the hole now if you don't mind me asking. I did a 1" hole in the inner pipe on mine.
I had the hole saw set already, so I started at 3/4, then liked it, so in typical Corvette Forum fashion, I figured that more would be better. I went to 1", liked it, then to 1 1/2. I love the sound now and 1 1/2 is enough.
