Default Backup Lights

My backup lights have quit lighting up when I shift into reverse on my 06 Z06. The lights work because they light up when I lock and unlock my car. Does anyone know where the switch is that activates the lights when shifting into reverse?

Just did a search on reverse lights instead of backup lights and found what I was looking for.

If you don't have any luck solving your issue at the switch, remove your passenger side tail lights and look inside/down and you'll see this connector.

Take it apart and clean it and confirm all the pins/sockets are intact. This has been a problem for others.

Good info, thanks! I've been trying to find a decent price the the backup switch should that be the problem. That thing must be made out of gold compared to C4's and 5's. $43.79 plus shipping from Rock Auto!! Lord only knows what it will be from a dealership.

After more searching, I found a post that indicates the reverse light switch is at the rear of the drive train above one of the catalytic converters and that the converter has to be removed to access the switch. Seriously????? Does anyone have any experience with this on an 06 Z06?

the switch is on the transmission, passenger side on the bottom. I have the same problem and cant figure it out. The fuses are fine but i need to do more diagnosing. you can disconnect that switch and put a jumper wire on the connector to see if you have a faulty switch. btw i have a 08 zo6

I have been under there and can't find a thing. I guess I'm blind. Everything on the underside of our car is pretty much sealed off for airflow I guess except for the tunnel where the exhaust and drive shaft are. This is pretty much under the shifter right? You don't have any pictures do you? Have you not been able to fix yours yet?

Unfortunately that pic for your '08 is different from my '06 so I'm back to searching. I may see if the dealership parts dept. can print out a location for me.

Don't buy a new switch (if and when you find it...LOL) until you clean the switch contacts with electrical cleaner. Unless the switch has been physically damaged or burned, this will likely fix it...for pennies.

Good suggestion about the electrical cleaner! As you mentioned I may never find it. I called the dealership this morning to ask about the availability of this switch for my 06 Z06. My ulterior motive was to get him to print out a schematic of the switch and where it goes! He checked and informed me there was no such switch for my car!! Small wonder that I can't find it, right???? Or is this guy just new and doesn't know how to look it up? How hard can this be!!!!!!!!
