Went to the Dark Side

Look at it this way. Everybody and their brother is trying to imitate each other with this black wheel fad, trying to be "different" or unique. But the thing is, you can't see the wheels so they all look the same.......up close or far away. All look the same. A big black hole. At least with chrome or gray you can actually see the wheel style and differences, good and bad. And you can at least tell there are wheels on the car and not just rims.

I'm not a fan of black rims, I actually like the factory painted silver rims that came on my car. But I have a light color car. If I got a black rim it would have to be a machine faced rim to break up all the black. I still like chrome, but it has to be on the right rim. The majority of the time a black rim just gets lost against the tire and black in the wheel well and it also does not help highlight the rim geometry.

I'm insane - I like the black or chrome wheels
Over the winter I picked up black Z06 replicas for my car, but haven't put them on yet because I kinda like the way the polished stock wheels look in the sun. I just need to get the black ones mounted and see how I like it.

I literally thought this was my car! Silver C6 with red calipers, black halo, black roof. I just put my Crays on in Jan and I love them! I am getting nothing buy complements! I think they look great. I was going to go with the Forgeline F14s, but I'm glad I didn't because the new mustangs have similar wheels

I personally would go with black or grey rims over chrome. I think they might look better in bright sunlight, maybe take a picture from thee 2 o clock position showing your stripe also.

When the Corvette's come with them from the factory I think they look nice. However when people put them on for aftermarket I don't think they look right. I think there is a reason why the base C6 never came with black wheels, it just looks off. Now this is my opinion. I like factory wheels. I love the GS/Z/427's when they come with the black or comp grey, the base just doesn't look right. That's just me. Thanks for sharing your pics

I have to admit I have thought about Black wheels but the lack of any type of identity or definition from any distance has kept me away so I'm not paying 5-7K for something you can't see. (For now anyway)

The best bang for the buck that I found was the Cray Brickyard. I ordered them through my local Discount Tire. They look great with a slight concave (deeper on the Z06) and were under $2k!!

It looked better with the chrome wheels. Now it looks like someone stole your hub caps. The black wheel thing was started by ricers. They have moved on to day glow colors that have nothing in common with the car color. Are we going to be seeing that here now too?

You don't have to pay much for black wheels, just have them powder coated. I didn't care for my chrome Gumbys so I bought used 2012 OEM corvette wheels from a forum member when he bought new wheels, they were in mint condition. I paid $470, I can't remember if that included shipping. Anyway I just had them powder coated gloss black for around $70 a wheel because of an extra layer of gloss. So saying it costs 4K for black wheels is not really a valid point. The cost of wheels is based on wheel quality, weight, process and finish not necessarily color alone.

It's a pretty valid point when you pay over $5K for wheels and then take a chance on a poor powder coat job or decide you don't like them afterward! If you have cheap disposable wheels it's fine.

If I'm paying $5K for wheels you can bet your a$$ they're coming to me in the color I want. There's no way in hell I'd pay to have wheels like that powder coated. Who pays $5K for wheels in the color they don't want? If you have pricey wheels and decide to change the color I'd sell them and buy a new set before I powder coat. When I suggested powder coating I was referring to stock wheels or aftermarket in the $1500 range. So I agree with you, I would not risk it with $5K wheels. Anyway black is awesome and chrome is...well, not my taste let's just say.

Absoultely nobody pays that much for wheels they don't like. I ordered my 3 piece wheels years ago and got exactly what I wanted and have a spare rear set with street tires mounted on them which is another $3K. It would be virtually impossible for me to give those up.
