While removing the driver's side seat to replace the seatbelt pretensioner in my 2006 base coupe LT2, my mechanic accidentally put a deep scratch (about 2" long) on the side of the console bezel. I called a couple of local Chevy dealers and they quoted me around $750 for a new one, but it seems it may be a discontinued part. I want everything back the way it was, in perfect condition. Any suggestions??
Check the parts for sale section on this forum. I see them there all the time. And for $750 you could get a nice leather one. Thats crazy expensive for just the plain gray one.
If you're going to pay to replace the scratched bezel, why would you stick with the original gray plastic? That was by far the weakest like in the 2006 interior (along with the matching button pod bezels). When I had my 2005 I used a 2008+ console bezel but replaced the "pleather" on the outside edges with genuine stitched leather. At the same time I added genuine stitched leather shifter and e-brake boots, shifter ****, and e-brake handle. You could even have your button pods covered in stitched leather. This would give your interior a much more upscale look and feel.
Thanks to all for their input. Looks like I'm leaning toward getting a 2008 aftermarket bezel. Can anyone tell me how the switches (traction control, hazard flasher) and aux. outlet would wind up on the new bezel? Is that something I could handle (as I am pretty good taking things apart) or do you recommend letting the vendor do it?

They just clip in there. You'll see how it works when you get the console off. Really simple. Like Ray said in the DIY, getting the connectors off is the PITA part.
Having done this recently, the biggest hassle is removing the AC adaptor housing. Do some research on this, there is a cheap tool used specifically for removing these things; otherwise, you will have to practically break it to get it out... guess how I know!! A few weeks later I read a post where guys had pic of this $3 tool from Harbor Freight that is used to pop them out with no issues. Good Luck!

I paid $300 for a brand new radio and instrument bezel combo. $750 is someone trying to rip you off!!

Thanks again for all the input. I do want to confirm though, based on comments from biker1059 and mpuzach, the 2008 bezel (with the leather trim) will fit my 2006 base coupe 2LT with NO modifications required whatsoever?? My car does NOT have the F55 suspension control.
Yes it will fit, I have a 06 base with no F55 control. The only thing I have not or did not use is the usb port that is located beside the power outlet.

Spray your bezel with plasti dip. It should hide the scratch (depending on how deep it is). You can get a can for under $10 and comes in different colors.
