It looks like it has been some time since this has come up, so I am looking for any updates since the technology seems to always be progressing faster than I can keep up. Does anyone have any info on a wireless backup cameras that use a cell phone app to view the camera? Good/bad points?
There are lots of options, but the best is still to use a wired camera to an aftermarket head unit as it is integrated, provide a large screen for viewing and will be the easiest to use. You can get some really fancy features. For example, if you use a Kenwood HU, which I do NOT recommend as they suck, they have camera's that can give different views and have a lot of features. But those Kenwood cameras tend to be pricy.
There are also systems that can integrate the camera and get data from the CAN bus and provide the moving guidelines like OEM cameras often have. Those systems are pricy also, but helpful when backing up.
Then there are the options to use a separate display that can be integrated into the rear view mirror or a display mounted on the sun visor or A-pillar, but they are smaller than integrated Double-DIN head units. If you have the camera go do the phone, it will be useless if you forget your phone, the phone is in your pocket, etc.

I am still holding out for a simple rear view mirror camera that will work. To me, it works better than being on the head unit (like my DD) because even with the smaller screen - it allows you to see the mirror and camera at the same time. Problem seems to be I cannot find anyone who makes one with the dome lights or without the temp but with the compass. If anyone finds something like that, please let me know.
