Hell I thought that was the new intro for the girls who are going to be Jello wrestling......bring them down the slide and into the pit as everyone cheers and high fives...... very cool!

Well out here in fly over country we all have to work or you don't eat..... we are in the red colored States they show on who voted conservative....... I guess we just can't figure out how to do it otherwise....... its getting harder to find folks out here that want to do jobs that you have to really work at......construction, road work and truck driving....... everyone is wanting to make 100K working a computer........

Gotta make a run in Lola this morning........ liquid Fertilizer to deliver...... got some new cool stuff for the dash on Lola........ will take a pic later........... its all about the Chrome you know........

I have heard base corvettes will melt if driven in the rain Whayman............ just saying......

Well, hamsters, I finally went to autozone and had them read codes. It shows P0480 which is the fan control circuit. I suspect the fan control module is fried.
Anyone know if the fan has to come out to access the module? I assume it does and that it comes out the bottom.
I think I will just hard wire it...

I know you can access it from the bottom, but not sure how you remove it. I thought it was the plug on the passengers side that overheated and could be hardwired.

Might be mistaken as I haven't had THAT problem yet.

H1,I think all vettes will melt in the rain.....at least that is what I read here at CF.

What your thinking of is a GS will shead weight if driven fast, thus reverting back to the sleek and slender fast base model.

I must have missed it, if you posted up a problem. So what happened to prompt you to go to Autozone? And did it do it before and has it done it since?

The usual issue is the 3-wire connector, but there are a few other things that cause problems too. Just need to know more than a P0480 code to diagnose.

No issues prior to replacing the battery. I left the vette here in Green Valley over the summer hooked to a tender. When I got here a couple weeks ago the battery was fried as it went dry over the summer and, perhaps, shorted out internally. I replaced the battery and, upon startup, got a check engine light and the SAH/ABS/TC lights. I went to autozone to get the codes read and got the P0480 Cooling Fan Speed Output Circuit. When driving the temp shows about 210 (doesn't seem to go higher) and I just can't remember if that's what it was before. I have not checked to see if the fan comes on.
Suggestions???

Assuming the 210 is in town and you have driven in average traffic for more than 10 minutes, that's pretty normal and means the fan is working. You'd probably see closer to 190 on the highway. Even on a cold start, the fan will come on if you turn the AC on if you want to look.
It might have been a glitch from the previously dying/dead battery, since it appears the fan works properly. So I'd disconnect the battery for a couple minutes to see if the code will disappear.

and if disconnecting the battery doesn't clear it, and you have no issue with the fan, I could ship you my Tech II with directions on how to clear code from history.

would be easy thing to do................... FedEx Overnight package

just sayin....................

That would require plugging into the OBDII port.
That might be above Ruxxys pay grade.

I can understand your concern. He has never had any experience longer than 2 to 3 sec after "plugging in".

Ignoring the juvenile comment from wayback...

Hoxxy & 427man:
I pulled the neg cable for about 10 minutes, hooked it up, fired it up and only the ABS light came on. I took it for a drive (temp was 190 at speed, 210 slow). I shut it off, fired it up and the CEL and ABS lights (no TC light) were both on. I let it idle and the temp climbed from 210 to 230 quickly so I drove it around a bit and shut it off at 210. I fired it back up and the CEL and ABS lights are on again. I cannot hear the fan run...I am a little deaf but I don't think it's coming on.
I pulled the neg cable off again and will let it sit for a bit.

sent you an email with some pictures of the Service Manual pages for P0480 from my 2013 manual, let me know if they make it there.......

found this from Hoxxy posted here a while back.......................

The fan duty cycle starts at 204* (10%) and increases to full speed (90%) at 235*. It will also start when the AC pressure reaches 160 psi and is full speed at 360 psi. It will turn on at full speed if either engine oil hits 302* or trans oil hits 270*. It'll run at 50% for a max of 2 minutes after key off, if the coolant temps or AC pressures are at or near high limits.

There are several tests to determine causes of improper fan operation, assuming the fan actually runs. Two of the cures require ECM replacement, two more are ground and/or open/high resistance, and the last (when everything else is OK) is to replace the fan module.

more later if needed....................

Mmm, Mmmmm..........just finished a true Grand Sport worthy meal. Two 1-inch thick corn-fed Nebraska steaks (thanks H1!), giant Klamath Basin baked potatoes, salad and Samuel Adams Oktoberfest. Doesn't get any better than this!

Sounds yummy dv

Just picked up a couple of tri tip steaks from Price Chopper. Prime grade, marbled better than the Snake River Farms Wagyu steaks right next to them (and 1/2 the price!)

I'll fix those up Saturday probably about the same as your meal....some salad & some taters

Hey Ruxxy, been thinking about getting one of these...the FIXD says it can turn off some codes. Maybe someone else has tried them or might be worth checking out. Pumped as the next great think in code readers. I don't need one now but might get in future. Some are wifi now. Good luck with your Gremlins

So I had a disagreement with a big 10 pt buck with my other vehicle 4 days ago. Not a pretty sight; I was probably going 40 mph when I hit it. I am saying there will be $10k damage by the time it is all said and done. Airbags did not deploy, thank goodness. Grille, fender, hood, bumper and bumper reinforcement, headlight and fog light, passenger side mirror, intercooler louvers, condensor, and probably radiator. Lots of miscellaneous plastic and metal parts in the front end. Glad I wasn't in the Vette!
