anyone besides chuck and I get the last recall from GM about the converters and rebute? whats this all about? It says I may fail the California emissions. I don't think were going to California soon. We both have 09s. Are these the only year involved? just asking. thanks
Several people have, and it's been discussed here in the past couple of weeks. Apparently it doesn't matter if you're in California or not, but rather whether your particular car was built to California emissions standards. There's a code inside your glovebox door that if you have it, then your car was built to comply with those standards. I can't remember what that code is though. At any rate, it's for particular VINs, and apparently you're one of them. I also am pretty sure it's voluntary if you're not in California. Seems like it covered a couple of model years, not just 2009. I have an '09 but haven't gotten the recall letter yet, nor have I checked my glovebox door to see if I will. You'd get free new cats out of the deal, but also will get your computer reflashed, which could be a problem if you've had a tune.
If on the 2009's, GM is adding another set of cats at mid pipe, then an oxygen sensor is probably added to monitor the new cats. Thus, ECM needs to be programed to monitor it. That is my guess. I hope they don't add another set on the 2008's.

I don't think there are any "secondary cats" added. Looks to me like the 2012 regular cats are different than the 2009 cats and that requires a 2012 H-pipe. The only other parts were 2 gaskets and 2 seals.

Just to be clear. They replaced your 09 cats (2) with later year cats (2) and in order to do so the H pipe or is it an X pipe was replaced? My 08 has an X pipe which I prefer over an H pipe. The 08 Parts show two intermediate pipes: one with and one without the NPP exhaust.
Sorry to push the subject, but I want to make sure cats are not added. Superchargers and cats are not the best of friends and I don't want worry about blowing 4 cats vs the two I already have.

My 2009 goes in for both recalls a week from tomorrow. New cats and the wiring jumper for the low beam headlight issue. Same day I scheduled that my Jeep dealer called and wanted to schedule me for an extended visit for my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. One recall is pending parts other problem is the rig keeps telling me the vehicles phone needs dealer servicing. Dealer has no clue what's causing that.

The parts number diagram shows an H-pipe and no other cats. Check out the part numbers. I haven't been under the car to see for myself. I'm going on the part numbers of the items replaced.
So here is the page on the "H-Pipe", it's called "Exhaust Pipe". No mention of any cat associated with it. So these are the diagrams for the
2012 and 2013 Covettes. I only see two cats, #1 and #2.

Thanks Walt. It looks like GM is installing the later year cats (2) which requires the "H" pipe intermediate pipe in order to fit. That makes sense. Thanks for clarifying the recall.
There is a federal mandated warranty on major emissions components for 8 yrs. or 80k miles, whichever comes first. There must of been some design flaw or failure on the 2008-09 cats for the recall. GM chose to do a recall rather than deal with the EPA. Can't blame them!
