Default How much does it cost to maintain a C6? Tires / Services / Etc.

So I'd like to own a C6 in the upcoming months (most likely base, not a Z06) and I'm curious about the maintenance costs. Can some of you C6 owners chime in with estimates costs of replacing tires / services / etc?

My main reason is that when used car shopping, the mileages vary greatly. It's hard to compare a $35k car with 30000 miles to a $30k car with 60000 miles unless I have some understanding of the maintenance costs. My goal is to get something under 50000 miles as well.

Any help? Thanks in advance!

Same maintenence as any car. But tires and brakes cost a little more.

Don is correct. Regular maintenance is in line with others cars. However when it comes to other things like, tires, brakes, and mechanical problems the Corvette tax takes affect. But, it's completely worth the cost to own America's true sports car.

That being said the C6's have a proven reliability record. So, if you find the perfect car just do your due diligence. If it's good, buy her and enjoy.

Hmm... so what's a set of tires on a C6 then, $800-$1000? And with normal driving (i.e. not ******* it everywhere, but not like a grandpa either), how long do they last... maybe 25-30k miles?

And I'm clueless on the cost of brakes, maybe $1000 and every 50k miles or so?

Tires is probably the biggest regular expense you can expect I would think. I don't baby mine, and I no longer get grip on my tires that I mounted less than 12K miles ago.

I do plenty of driving on it though and all really fun miles, so I've accepted the added cost as part of owning the car and actually having loads of fun with it.

I'd expect to pay $1K-$1,300 mounted and balanced per new set of great tires. You can get away with cheaper if you don't care as much about grip and how they perform in the rain.

Four Firestone run flats cost me just over $1200. I have about 8,000 miles on them now and would guess that 25,000 is about right for their life span. Just guessing there.

I do my own brake jobs so all I can give you is parts cost. 4 drilled rotors and ceramic pads for a Z51 equipped car cost me $415. I did mine at 30,000 miles but I read a lot of people getting way more miles than that on the original pads.

The pads alone were about $100 and work very well with minimal dust. That was parts only. some just do pads. I always do rotors as well but that is just me.
Hope this helps.

I've got 70K + miles on my C6 coupe, and so far I've replaced the original OEM GY RF's at 12K miles (over 1/2 worn and getting dangerous to drive in the rain)

I replaced those with Firestone Wide oval Indy 500's non-Runflats for under $1000.00 installed and balanced (bought at Tire Rack-$20.00 a tire to install and road force balance) They are a great riding tire, not noisy, and also great traction in the rain and in the dry conditions also.

They lasted 30K miles, and now on my second set of Indy 500's. Bought at Tire Rack, and used a local garage to install and road force balance for less than $1000.00

I replaced my OEM brake pads myself with OEM ceramics at 50K miles, for the cost of the pads (less than $100.00). My Z51 rotors were still in great condition, and the OEM pads were only 1/2 worn

At 50K miles, I replaced the front and rear sway bar end links...just because it was time...they were not making any noise.

At 50K, I also replaced the shocks myself (OEM) with OEM ($320.00) just because it was time.....they were not noisy or bouncy.

I do my own oil changes, and grease the Zerk fittings in the rear sway bar end links myself.

I buy the synthetic Mobil 1 5-30 when it comes on sale at Wally World or similar places.

I'm still on my original Spark plugs and wires, but they will get changed out this year at roughly 75K miles.

That's all I've done as far as regular maintenance, but at 30K, I had a leaking water pump seal, and had to replace the pump. Did it myself for the cost of the pump (less than $200.00)

Regular performance car maintenance. No more than most and the car if a LS3 engine is purchased is highly reliable. Buy the one with lower miles...if price is near the same. Plenty of people buy these cars and wax and store them in their garage as more of a trophy than anything else. Then they realize what a waste of money it is, and if your lucky and search will sell it to you...

06 vert bought from original owner with 53K on it and a complete service history which turned over 77K just this morning. Other than routine maintenance, fluids, tires, brakes, wipers etc, the car has not required even one (repair). No break downs, nothing. It's a Chevy, not a Maserati. Tires can cost more just due to their size and quality as compared to a non performance car but oil changes and other service items are similar to most any car.

Default New C6 Owner

I'm a new C6 owner. The dealership quoted me $660 for the 30,000 mile maintenance. Is this higher than expected/reasonable or just right?

What for.....an oil change?

I have 172,000 miles on my 07 and I do my own maintenance. Oil and filter, shocks, battery, brakes and rotors. Clean the Haltech air filter when needed.

Just for grins I cleaned the throttle body twice.

I typically drive 20,000 miles per $1000 set of tires. I have a local shop do full synthetic oil changes for $40 every 6,000 miles. From 58,000 miles to 85,000, I've had to replace the rear bearings assemblies once and fix my radiator support skid plate 3 times. Luckily, I did all the work myself so it didn't cost much. To my knowledge, there was no nondriver induced problems besides the bearings over the life of the car.

My costs have been higher than those posted here. I bought new tires this year, came out around $1500, which included tires and an alignment.

My oil changes at the dealership are pricey, so I'll be looking for another shop. However, I had the car at the dealer for a recall, so it was simpler to have them do the last oil change. Be forewarned, the service department will always try to upsell on services (did you know they get a commission? I didn't, until recently).

I would politely disagree with those who say a Corvette costs about the same as any other Chevy. That has not been my experience.

Your maintenance costs will depend on how much work you do yourself. On the bright side, my car hasn't needed anything except the tires.

How? Cost of oil + filter is close to that alone.

I really don't know. I haven't changed my own oil in years since prices are lower than DIY in my city.

Find a new dealer. The C6 doesn't have any extraordinary maintenance that is due at a low 30,000 miles, and most items can be checked by the owner, if he/she is even slightly mechanically inclined.

Check:
*Ensure all fluids are full (engine oil, coolant, trans, diff, clutch, brake);
*Serpentine belt isn't overly worn;
*Brake pads for any approaching wear limits;
*Cabin air filter cleanliness;
*Engine air filter cleanliness;

Only replace items above that are showing unusual wear. Nothing in that list typically needs replacement at 30,000, except for possible the cabin air filter, depending on your environment, and that's a 5 minute job anyone can do.

*Engine oil/filter isn't part of the 30,000 mile service, as it is on it's own schedule.

*Engine air filter for LS3 is expensive, but is a long life unit, and likely doesn't need to be changed until at least 50,000 miles. LS2 filters are cheaper, but need to be changed more often.

*Plugs and plug wires, engine coolant are 100,000 mile items.

*If you are not comfortable checking trans/diff levels and brake pad thickness, almost any indie shop will do it, and likely for less than $40. (some brake shops will do it for free)

  1. oil & air filter change
  2. tire balance
  3. replacement of engine air filters
  4. transmission service
  5. cleaning injectors and throttle body
  6. power steering service
  7. evaporator service
How does the $660 sound for those? The associate said each dealership has a different version of the 30,000 mile service: true or BS? Any other items that should be on a 30,000 service? Thanks for helping me out, wayback; I really appreciate it. Stay vigilant, with all the madness going on in Dallas .

To save on maintenance, 1) learn to do it yourself and 2) seek out deals on parts. (I use Amazon Deals and Advance Auto coupon codes)

I pulled up my service log. FYI if you want some info on actual costs for me:

Oil change once a year or every 10K is $28 (walmart)
A6 fluid and filter every 50K (or 100K if gentle) is $73
Coolant drain and fill every 50K is $18
Brake fluid swap every two years is $8

I got 2 sets of pads and 2 pair of rotors for $191 total. Brakes don't have to cost $1500.

2007 Bought new 113 months ago and 73,000 miles:
2 sets of Tires was $2000
Total maintenance and repair is $1300.
That includes scheduled maintenance PLUS stuff like alternator, half shaft, 2 alignments, HVAC control, injector flushes, plugs&wires

What is their transmission service? For auto trans some dealers charge for a flush only and do not change the filter. The correct way is to change the filter . I don't know about the trans flush I did hear negative comments.
Tires if you are lucky you may get near 30000 miles. If you get tire I suggest an alignment it could cost $1600-1700 with the alignment depending on the tires you select. If you need tires and the car is 7 years or more then At the same time you will need new sensors to monitor the tire pressure
