Need some help here. I'm sitting here waiting for a tow. Got an engine over heating warning, analog gauge dead at 0, digital gauge maxed at hot. Oil temp was 212 and trans temp 195.
Car is a 08 vert w/80k.

Got the low coolant level last week. Tank was at full mark. Fiddled with the wire on the temp sensor to make sure it was as it should be. My main worry is has any damage been done? I had to drive it about a mile 1/2 to get it to a safe place to pull off.
Both the pump and the thermostat failing will usually cause much higher temps. Any time I've had a sensor fail, it was pegged in one direction or the other.
Do we have electric fans I have never checked but I had the same problem in my ford a few weeks ago one year old transit connect the electric fan failed and the temperature shot up while in traffic. They towed and repaired the truck for free not complaints.
Good luck keep us posted as to what you find I wouldn't expect it to be anything serious.
When your problem is settled, try RVRoadhelp for towing services.
I don't think it matters who you pay for the service (AAA, USAA…) they all contract to the local tow service(s), and the locals are the slow link in the chain.
As long as you have adequate coolant and your water pump is working, I'd just drive it home. If a sensor isn't working, of course it's going to tell you that something is overheating when in fact it isn't. Sometimes you gotta ignore idiot lights & warnings and determine from a pure mechanical perspective if everything is functioning correctly. Sometimes you gotta separate electrical from mechanical. Drive the damn thing home unless you are for certain no coolant is being circulated through the engine.

I have experience with AAA, AAA+, MTS, for motorcycles, and RVRoadhelp. RV is by far the best of the lot. I've heard that Good Sam is also good.
If the connector and wires for the temp sensor break down(common failure) It will cause the issue described. I have experienced this in my 05 GTO twice. The heat is hard on the wiring. GM sells the connector with about 12" of wire as a repair item. Connector is on drivers cylinder head in front of the exhaust manifold. FYI

Also based on the oil and trans temps I would expect the water temp
to be 200 to 210. Not maxed out.
Ok everyone, its done nd here are the details...
1. temps quoted were what I was reading on the dic, trans:198, oil:212, analog coolant temp pegged at 0, digital temp gauge: coolant temp XXX
2. Finally got it home after a 4 hour wait. Two trucks came and niether had a battery jumper box. A jump was needed after siting running the flashers constantly and the accessory mode intermitently put a drain on a battery going bad.
3. Replaced both the battery and temp sensor and ran car for 30 min to get the temps up; no problems.
Thanks for all your insights. Just one more question...
Will the tire pressures reset themselves? They are all reading 0 psi.
