Ok fellas my oil filter flew off my 2007 c6 yesterday 😕😕 . Went this morning and bought a new one Ac Delco pf48e it want screw on so I'm assuming the thread is now stripped . My question would be is do I need a new oil pan or can the thread be changed lmk please thanks for looking
I would try to spin the new filter on before I did anything else. More detail in what happened would be helpful. Did you hit something or did it just spin off on it's own? How long did the car car run without oil?
Anyway, can't hurt to try to spin the new filter on there as a starting point.

As soon as I hit down on the car i seen a lot of smoke so I cut the car of and let it coast to the upcoming side street . I thought it was the trans lines that may have come loose as I had just relocated the cooler but that wasn't the case the oil filter flew clean off . I bought a new one yesterday but tried to screw it up this morning and it's not biting at all . The threads look good but apparently they must be stripped

You say "do I need a new oil pan". What does that have to do with an oil filter? I'm assuming if the oil filter screw off you started losing oil when the filter seal disengaged the block. Hopefully you were able to shut down the engine before any damage.

Ok brotha if the oil filter doesn't want to screw on to the pan how do I change the damage screw without having to get a new pan . That's really my ??? Can it be changed without removing the pan . The screw which the oil filter screws onto
Double check they gave you the right filter. The one time I had to get a filter other than Mobil 1 M113 the auto store looked it up on their computer. When I tried to install it, it did not fit. Took it back and the double checked...it was what the computer called for. Computer list was wrong. They cross referenced the M113 and got me the correct one.
I don't believe that the oil filter screws into the oil pan. I believe the screw where the filter goes in on the block, there may be a attachment point that comes off the block. If so you may just need to change that.part. it is very strange for the filter to just come off, did you just change the oil?
I stand corrected it appears that the oil filter does attach to the oil pan. It looks like there is a fitting that screws into the pan that is removable. Check out this video it shows the attachment point and if that's the problem you should be able to unscrew it with out removing the pan. http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=UT...ilter+location

Never assume anything, get under there and look up close at the threads, wipe them with a rag to look for metal shavings, did your filter get loose and fall off? I doubt that would damage the threads. Or did the filter hit something while driving? Double check your new filter size.
Thanks fellows I figured out the problem . The guy who installed my engine apparently didn't tighten the oil filter to good , I mean 4 dyno pulls and some intensive street tuning and the filter survive . My car was and ls2 car hit something in the road one night didn't know it put a whole in the oil pan so long story short insurance company bought me a new engine . I purchased a oil pan from a member here and forgot it came off an 2005 c6 so I needed a pf46 instead of a pf48 silly me but I thank all off you guys for your input 👍
I'm not trying to insult anyone's mechanical smarts, but if the new filter does screw on properly, make sure you have one and only one rubber sealing ring on the filter and that the ring from the previous filter isn't left on the mounting area. If you have no rubber ring, or two, the filter can lose its grip and spin off.
This isn't a blinding flash of the obvious, but I've seen it happen before . . . as they say, err, umm, duh.
